It was a beautiful day yesterday, the weather was perfect, the yard looks good (still green, not too many weeds yet), and the family came out to celebrate Father's Day with my Du.
Chris (youngest) had to go to work around noon, but went out and bought Du some bushes to replace the ones that had died in front of our porch. Then he and Du got them planted.
I had dinner done and ready to bake early in the day, so had time during the afternoon to enjoy the outdoors with Du. He spends most of the warm months outside, working, playing and just appreciating the wildlife and flowers around our acreage.
The clematis vining up the front porch. I love these dark purple flowers!
We had a good time playing with our Juno. Here she is shaking Du's hand. Such a clever girl!
We adore this little (?) dog. Du's showing off her very impressive jowls here.
Getting ready to grill (we had ribs and brisket--YUM! I had one piece of lean brisket--NO ribs!)
Du has a TV in his garage, and was switching back and forth between Royals baseball (they won their 7th straight game!), and the NASCAR race. THAT makes for a perfect Father's Day!
Showing off some of the fruit in our mini orchard. We've got peach, pear, apple & cherry trees, all of which Du planted and nurtured. He is leaving quite a legacy to the next owner of our acreage.
Me and baby Noah. We were dressed very patriotically!
Taking the flag down at dusk.
It was a wonderful day with our family, made all the more precious by the knowledge that we don't have unlimited Father's Days with our Du to celebrate. I had a pretty good day food-wise, too, trying to limit my portion size, and doing no snacking! Every day is a new beginning and I feel motivated to keep trying. Before summer is over, I want to get back into some of those jeans and capris that are too tight!
