Garden work

Wednesday, June 11, 2014

It's a rainy day, so I went back to my exercise videos, finished them and I feel great.

My husband has been picking strawberries from the garden so that's been my treat a night, fresh strawberries (nothing else) and they are SOOOOOO good, small this year, but still good. He's been having radishes from the garden, too., those are the only things that are ready, so far. We've given one ice cream pail 3/4 full of strawberries to our daughter and have a full pail in our fridge, that's all that's been ready so far.

He planted potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, squash, cherry tomatoes, strawberries (well, have had a bed since we built the house back in 1982), peppers, peas, green beans...may be something else but can't think of what it would be right now, We always can and freeze a lot of stuff and we have sweet corn on the edge of the field that our nephew plants for us when he's doing the field corn or soy beans. Keeps us going for quite a while.

Then when they go hunting we have venison and turkey, too, and of course fish from our weekend fishing trips on the Mississippi, and sometimes morel mushrooms (we've tried dehydrating them and they are delicious later in the winter months).

Anyway, there you go, lots of food storage at our house done during the summer and enjoyed in the winter.

Have a great day everyone, and always remember to smile! emoticon

Did you see the 'thing' on taking old drainage gutters and planting strawberries in them. the berries hang over the sides when ripe and you just reach up and harvest. I'm trying it. I understand it takes a few years for the plants to produce. we'll see. Keep Sparkin'!!

Love garden-fresh strawberries. None yet here, but there just is nothing sweeter!
