An Open Letter to My Cats

Monday, June 09, 2014

Oh, my darling kitties. It was so wonderful when you met us at the door when we returned from the ER. Yes, your poor, sweet Human-Dad was sick again. I'm sure your tender ministrations have contributed to his feeling better already. It seems that you think outside the box when consoling poor, helpless humans.

Imagine my chagrin, then, when I discovered that . . . while we were at the ER . . . you were not thinking outside the box. No, you were peeing outside the box! It was such a nice touch to conclude a truly outstanding evening! I so enjoyed cleaning it up, especially since it was after midnight when I discovered it. It is probably a good thing that I did not know which of you did this deed! It was especially helpful because of how it delayed my nice, relaxing bubble bath. (I had to use the bathtub in the cleanup process and then disinfect it before I could use it.) I know that you were just trying to be truly outstanding kitties, but you do not need to prove how wonderful you are again!

Whew! Glad to have that off my chest! Now that I have written it, I am glad you cannot read. Because . . . if you really knew how I felt about this home-made gift, you might give such gifts to me more often!

Yours truly,
Your Human-Mom

(It's good to laugh, ya know!?)

Oh, I know how it feels but I am lucky and have found that Archie and Jinks like the crystal litter and I keep it clean several times a day. But I have had other cats that hated it. So finding what your kitties like is job one.

I have a bunch of boot trays, too. Well! Problem solved! Next?

I had a mat down, but it escaped the mat. Now I have a boot tray under it. My husband had one of those under the other litter box, and it almost always catches the accidents. I had to get a different litter box because the one I had for them would not fit well on the boot tray. They are worth all the trouble!

Maybe you can put a "welcome mat" at the door to contain the damage. Puppy training pads come to mind.

We live in a small apartment, so that is not a good option for us. Too cramped already. I always wear my Croc knock-offs or something any time I walk around because one of the cats likes to barf in high-traffic areas from time to time. Yes, I still love my kitties! They more than make up for the occasional accidents, and I really would hate walking a dog in the rain.

This would be why I invested in the world's largest litter box. It is so huge it put an end to the problem. Takes up floor space, but beats surprises discovered with bare feet in the middle of the night, and all the necessary disinfecting. emoticon

I'm pretty sure it was unintentional. It happens from time to time. Someone faced the back of the cat pan and didn't get their bum down low enough to miss the open doorway. The one that gets the occasional UTI exhibits very pronounced strange behavior when she needs a vet.

I was pretty upset when this happened because of how tired and stressed-out I was. By the time I wrote the blog, I was laughing my head off!

    Still a cat-lover! emoticon

Are they looking for attention, or a trip to the vet to treat a urinary tract infection? (Voice of some experience.)

This is when it gets hard to love a cat. Thanks for sharing. emoticon
