friday--adventures in horse poo
Friday, May 23, 2014
good morning! well--we have our first trailer load of horse poo from Dwayne and cindy. we need to get it unloaded and go back for a second helping. I have hurt my back so we are giving it a couple days to rest and a couple days for the poo to dry out so it's lighter--we don't have a loader here, so its our two backs and a pair of shovels.
it's funny how becoming a gardener changes what you get excited about isn't it? horse poo, chopped leaves and big rocks send me into orbit for days! I can't wait to get a couple goats--I want the milk and the animals, but mostly I want the POO! right now our old battleaxe hens are free ranging in the pasture and it is wonderful to watch them work the soil. of course we have to fence the strawberries before they begin to color up, or the hens will work them right out of existence!
ran 3 miles yesterday--slow and easy, I just wanted to see how my back would tolerate it. rest today because tomorrow is my second 10K race. we are going tonight to pick up our race packets and get the lay of the land, so we know where to go tomorrow. race starts at 8, so we have to be up and around early. probably just take the girls for a walk this morning--and then its yard work. my plan is to begin weeding the train layout garden. its the last real mess in the front yard. then I have potting mix to stir up and some plants to pot. lots to do and the sun is up--have a lovely day!
