Expanding our family

We've been working on getting everything in order for a while now.
*graduated from undergrad
*went to grad school
*got married
*I graduated from grad school
*moved home
*got big kid jobs
*bought a house

all in the past 4 years. Now we're looking forward to expanding our family. We already have two awesome kitties, and are looking at getting a puppy this summer. We had originally set a date to start trying for babies in November, after my next appointment, but my sister informed us she is pregnant and due in Oct. We had already talked about wanting to have cousins close in age, and this seemed pretty perfect.

I went off my birth control (there were other factors here), and started keeping track of things. I'm not really into charting, but we needed to have an idea of when I'd be late, at least. We made dental appointments, just to be sure I didn't need any dental work done (and I did!), so we're waiting until after I have a cavity filled. It is nice to know that everything else is in good shape.

We found an awesome organic farmers market in our area that's already open. I've been spoiled to fresh local strawberries and broccoli so far. We have all the greens we can manage, so we haven't been indulging in the farmers market ones. We've started a real garden out back, now that we own a house. This year, we're trying whatever sounds good. Next year, we're going to expand and try to grow all of the summer fruits and veggies our little family eats. Whatever we don't grow will come from the farmers markets in the area or a csa. What I was trying to say, is that we've stopped counting calories and are counting fruits and veggies instead. The more, the better, really. We've even seen some improvements in the scale thanks to the yard work and the local food.

I've become happy with my body. I do wish I was thinner, but I've realized that I'm never going to be "skinny." I just have too much muscle for that. I love my muscles, and have decided that instead of trying to lose weight (I apparently don't have so much left lose, anyway, like 30 pounds), I'm going to get fit. My mile has gone from 20 minutes minimum to about 17. I can run at a 6 or 7 for short bursts, and can jog at a 4 for a 1/4 mile or so. I need a heavier kettlebell, and I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy one this weekend. I've outgrown the lighter ones, and I need to invest in my fitness.

I intend to keep up with my walks/jogs and kettlebells over the next month and make sure I can continue them through a good chunk of pregnancy.

I'm done with weight loss for a while. I know I have about 30 pounds to go, but it looks like that's just going to have to wait a while. I know I want kids. We want kids, and we know we need to start while we're both young and healthy, before things get more difficult.

We're sooo excited!

I am so excited for you! Trying to have a baby is one of the hardest journey's that I have been on (6 long years and 50lbs gained), but now I have a 3 month old, and it just changes your world. I wish you luck, and if you start getting frustrated if it takes a while message me, and I would love to give you the names of some terrific resources. Enjoy your lovely garden!!

this is great news! We also are trying for a baby. This will be our second baby; our son is almost 17 months old...we'll see when it happens for us! I think I will start charting lol I didn't have to with my son it happened as soon as I got off the pill. I agree you can't wait to be the perfect weight or what not to have a baby or anything else for that matter. Just take the steps to get healthier and give it all you got! Good luck to you!!!!!
