Surprise! There really is no magic formula....

Tuesday, May 20, 2014

Hi Spark Friends,

This weekend was a wonderful one for my family, my twins made their Confirmation on Saturday and the day was perfect. I had bought a dress that I was struggling to fit into when I purchased it some months ago and it slipped on easily. As a matter of fact, it was a little too loose in the waist. No matter, I felt good and was looking forward to the day with my family.

My weight loss journey has been a slow and steady journey... I have no complaints about the pace in which I am losing weight because I know it's going to stay off this way. No crash diets, no accelerated weight loss. I have steadily been losing anywhere between 1-2 pounds per week since joining Spark in January (though this week I had my largest drop at 4 pounds! whoo hoo!).

There's a saying that it takes a few weeks for you to notice the change in your body, 8 weeks for family to notice and 12 weeks for the rest of the world..... I guess I didn't even realize how I hit that 12 week mark when the world started to notice.... and, I apologize in advance for gloating but, boy did it feel good to hear the words over and over "Did you lose weight?"

It's happening more frequently now as I have to change my clothing and I am less afraid to reveal my serious curves. I am gaining back a bit of confidence now. I am proud of myself....and it feels really good.

And then, immediately following the weight loss question came another "How did you do it?" And I notice one thing in common with most people, they don't want to hear there is no magic formula. I didn't take pills. I didn't do a crash diet. I cut back my calories slowly, I ate more healthy foods, and I started exercising. I got into a routine that works for me. Nothing dramatic. Slow and steady changes. But changes none-the-less. Changes I can keep up for the rest of my life. Yes, I am doing Isagenix at the moment, but this was to help get over a plateau and to raise my awareness of how and when my body responds to food. I created healthy habits I can sustain.

I'm not on any pedestal, this is hard work. I still have another 50 lbs to go and that's a looooonnnng stretch away! But, for today, I am thanking myself I made the change and I got to where I am today. For today, I will gloat, because tomorrow when I look like a fool at my kickboxing class because I can't do 90% of the exercises, I will be humbled again and reminded there is a long road ahead.

Spark is a major motivator for me... I was on a stretch for 115 days of logging in and missed my first day this past Saturday due to the Confirmation frenzy...but no matter, I will start again for the second half of my journey and I am happy to be on this road with you!

Have a super Tuesday!

I am doing Isagenix and Kick Box too. Loving both! I also am using Isagnix to get over a stall - actually a regain due to some surgery and some medicine. Nothing was working and this is. Yay!

Congrats to you for your successes!

Awesome!! Love this whole blog post!! Slow and steady is the way to do it. I've read that if you lose more than 2lbs a week, you are losing muscle not fat and that will only hurt your metabolism so slow is the way to go. You are doing so great! And Spark really is the most motivating place because it's real people doing it the real, hard way. Love that!

And yeah, I saw someone on my facebook feed selling herbalife and someone commented on his post saying, "Will this work for me? I don't like to workout, I eat fast food and really crappy and I love my soda. I don't want to stop any of that." He actually told her yes that the herbalife would work for her. SMH. I'm sorry, either you want it or you don't. If you want it, you have to be willing to put in the work. There is no magic pill. The sooner you realize that, the better you'll be. :)

It's so true - sure, we'd all love that magic pill... but it doesn't exist! My neighbor and I were 5 lbs apart back in Sept when I decided to make big changes. I've lost almost 60 since then and she's gained ~ and when I try to encourage her to make the healthy eating change, she won't budge. But she does buy diet pills...hoping! It's tough, but well worth it when you stick with it. You've been doing an amazing job & so glad you're seeing such great results!

I'm so happy for you, it feels great to hear people say those words have you lost weight, and your blog is a reminder that hard work pays off. Great blog! It made me realize that even though the journey is not easy it will be worth it to reach the goal. I like those pics too. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Yes, your right. I said the same thing a while back in a blog. People are actually a little disappointed when I say that I lost my weight by diet and exercise. I think they wanted me to say, "oh, I sprinkled Sensa on my food and poof, the weight disappeared!" I also think they don't believe me when I say that it's a lifestyle change. Especially people who haven't seen me in a while. they probably think I had my stomach stapled or something.

It's the best feeling when people notice your weight loss. I have a brother in law who I only see during the holidays or family functions. Every time he sees me he says, "there she is, the incredible shrinking woman"

Congrats on getting in that dress and go ahead and gloat. You deserve to toot your own horn once in a while.

Congrats on people noticing your weight loss! That is really validation for all your hard work. You need that sometimes.

That is really common to get the "how did you do it?" question and they're hoping you'll give them an easy answer. A lot of people aren't really interested in hearing about lifestyle changes. Luckily for me, I'm a runner. For those I don't know very well I tell them simply "I took up running." and that gets me out of answering a lot of questions. I'm always happy to talk to those who really want to know the ins and outs, but for most it's enough to back off the questions.
