I now know that...

a family (in-laws) destination vacation can be devastating to my weight loss progress if I don't plan ahead and stick to my plan. I just got back from our annual trip to Illinois - I gained 6 lbs (139.5 when I left, 145.5 when I returned). Why? Well, there are several reasons (excuses) and I now know that I need to remember about these the next time I go and I need to have a plan. Also, after my Cabo Vacation Success, I think I was a little cocky...."how bad could this be, I won't be at an all-inclusive resort?" Big difference! Resort has gym and food options and lots of activities instead of just "visiting"...here is what I need to remember...
Water - tap water is yukky (sulfer) I need to buy extra drinking water and keep drinking. (I felt bad if I drank a whole gallon to myself every day - my weight loss effort is worth it!)
Walking - be prepared - bring cutters or mosquito net or both
Working out - insist on borrowing car to go to the gym, take own computer to play workout videos - try them at home first so I know what to expect and what I might need.
Food - tell a white lie - tell them you don't eat bread so they don't push as much - don't let them catch you eating it! Buy fresh veggies, cottage cheese.
Alcohol - select the days/events you will drink - don't get drunk, don't drink every day.
Offer to help - instead of sitting around visiting, ask if they need help with something, cleaning, dusting, anything!

Vacations with family are tough. I've got of ours trained to take it easy on insisting we eat more....sometimes I just have to look them in the eye and say, "Thanks, it was delicious, but I simply can't eat another bite"

When we were up at my Mom's in Boston last summer, I signed up for a 2 week membership for $25 at a gym right across the street from her house. I went there every day....best $25 I ever spent!

Sounds like a plan and am sure the help would be appreciated.
