Semi-Annual Physical Training Test

Well, it is that time of year again, time for the semi annual APFT (everything needs its own acronym, this one means Army Physical Fitness Test. I have not been training as hard as I was before the fall test, and the results show.

It starts with 2 min of push ups, as many as you can do. I did 68, enough to get maximum points. Then 2 min of sit ups, again as many as you can do. I did 74, enough to get max points. I don't usually have trouble with the first two events. Then comes the 2 mile run, which is a good yardstick for my current state of fitness. In the fall, I was able to run it in 13:31 min. I didn't think I was going to repeat that performance. We ran on an outdoor track and I managed to finish in 14:24 this time. Not too bad. My legs were not totally recovered from the trail run, but I don't think that it was a huge factor. I needed to finish in 14:06 to get maximum points for the run, so I ended up scoring 297 out of 300 possible points, which I am happy with.

The last "event" is the weigh in. At my age and height, I am allowed to weigh 197 lbs. I came in at 187 lbs. A couple outside my "maintenance range" of 180-185, but nothing to panic about. Now that school is drawing to a close, I think I can make more time to work out which will help in both fitness and with the weight.
