Thyroid & Diabetes: more in common than you would guess!

Wednesday, May 07, 2014

Sorry I didn't get this up sooner... I couldn't type until Sunday, and our whole weekend was CONSUMED with a HUGE homework project (in my opinion beyond the scope and ability of even my own very bright 9-year-old) and soccer. I am SO scrambling right now to find my stride again (and after a week of incapacitation every corner of my house - LAUNDRY - is on fire)....

Each group of sessions are FREE for 48 hours after posting (they change over 8 am Pacific Time)... they post:
* Sunday (May 4th)
* Tuesday (May 6th)
* Thursday (May 8th)
* Saturday (May 10th)
* Monday (May 12th)
* Wednesday (May 14th)

...you may get lucky and still be able to view some previous postings later.

There is the option to purchase full unlimited access and bonus material... these are so good, I will likely do this before the week is out... I'm finding it relevant beyond words!

If you don't have diabetes, and you think this has nothing to do with you, you may be greatly surprised... I know I am.

I don't 'technically' have diabetes (though I'm certain this is a bullet I have only narrowly dodged, but I DO have a deranged metabolism/hormones, and much of what is being discussed is very relevant to healing different areas of my gut-brain-metabolic axis.

Monday (MAY 5, 2014) - Friday, (MAY 16, 2014)

Each day's interviews will be available for 24 hours between 10:00 A.M. EST (3:00 P.M. GMT) - 9:59 A.M. EST. (2:59 P.M. GMT) the next day.

...you may get lucky and still be able to listen (these are PODCASTS ONLY... no video) to some previously aired postings... I was late to the party and was able to catch up. There is also the option to purchase full unlimited access... though I will likely just listen to these, and use the resources to follow up (though the information is incredible, the sound quality isn't always good).

What amazes me most is the clear connection between diabetes and thyroid dysfunction... not to mention the degree to which any and all illness can be traced back to some level of thyroid dysfunction (60 speakers agree!). Here are some of the main points from the last couple of days:

emoticon
The thyroid is the master METABOLIC regulator for the body: EVERY CELL IN YOUR BODY has thyroid receptors.

emoticon
Diabetes is NOT defined by an inability to regulate blood glucose... elevated blood glucose is the most obvious and LATE MANIFESTATION of diabetes (the talks clearly explain how you can determine whether or not you have diabetes long before you have blood glucose issues and can thus intervene in a more timely and less dramatic fashion, thus preventing complications - like heart disease, stroke).

emoticon
Type 2 Diabestes is a metabolic disease, and REVERSIBLE, as it has a metabolic cause, and a metabolic correction.

emoticon
Over 60% of people with thyroid dysfunction will develop Type 2 Diabetes. If you lose your gallbladder in the meantime, the likelihood of diabetes goes UP.

(I'm currently and helplessly watching my ALWAYS SKINNY sister - with her low/no-fat, artificial sweetener, high-carb diet - walk this path without skipping a step... and she is not open to hearing that she can prevent further decline.)

emoticon
The LIVER and liver function is the key to healthy thyroid and prevention of Type 2 Diabetes.

emoticon
There is a causative and healing relationship between GUT - LIVER - THYROID - DIABETES.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time to write, in any depth, about what I am learning... though it will likely trickle out over time. If your interest is at all peaked, I strongly suggest that you register - it's FREE - and take in what you can. It's well worth your time.

Additionally, even if you can't find the time to take in any of the sessions for either Summit, go and visit the comments threads. They are an education in and of themselves... the presenters seem to be really great about responding to questions there!!!

As always, I so regret that much of this understanding and information was not available to the general public when I was a much younger woman. I would not have had to spend the majority of my life ill, frustrated, frightened, and despairing.

I'm grateful that I have a second chance to live well and vibrantly! Even more so, I'm beyond grateful that my daughter won't have to compromise her dreams, and all she is created to be, because of health issues.

Dear SPARKlings, may today and every day bring to you a ridiculous abundance of whatever you need. May you find peace within and all around you. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith and desire... a desire which even itself issues from God. May all your concerns, struggles, anxieties and fears fall like ashes as you rise on eagle's wings, SOARING above all that would hinder you along this tremendous adventure of being and becoming all you are created to be. May you answer your call and use those gifts that you have received to pass on the love that has been given to you. May the presence of God settle into your bones and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love beyond your wildest imagination. May you be overwhelmed by the grace of God as it simply "overtakes" you moment by moment... rather than being overwhelmed by the cares of life!

P.S. Well, my hand and I are back in the land of the living, LOL! I spent 7 days on IV antibiotics (that's SEVEN 4 am trips to the ER)... blew out 3 veins, I look like a pincushion, and I couldn't use my hands in all that time (oh how lovely a shower felt by the end of it all)... the bite HURT deep into the joint, my hand remained swollen and disabled for three days, and the IV port was even more painful in the other hand (I can't tell you what an adventure it was going to the bathroom). The bruising is now fading away. My gut has fared better than I could have possibly hoped... though I do have some healing to do in that regard, too.

I learned SO much (and am so grateful).... I want to share, but it will have to wait.

...oh! And Cleo is well enough, for now, too. :)

...Because you deserve WELLNESS and VITALITY!

So, JUST DO IT.

    What a relief that you are okay! Good news that your gut is doing better than anticipated. You've been through a lot and I'm waiting on pins and needles to hear more!

    Thanks for all the links, it is so interesting how diseases are connected together, thats something I've learned a lot about working in a naturopathic clinic!

    Ramona, so glad to know you are feeling better! Take care!

    I've never given much thought to my thyroid. I should rethink that!

    Glad you and Cleo are doing better!

    Fascinated by both topics. Proud of you to be able to fit them into your schedule. I tried to register for the thyroid health event & page couldn't be found. Perhaps it's past the registration date. I'll try again later today.

    Good topics and speakers in both events. Thanks for the summary you provided.

    So glad to hear you are "alive & kickin'!" -- You've been on my mind a LOT and I've been praying that you are recovering without substantial fall-out.

    Thanks for the links! The body is "fearfully & wonderfully made"! It shouldn't surprise us that everything is so interconnected... but it does...

    I almost think western medicine has forgotten all means of treating illnesses as anything other than putting a "bandage" on it until it grows worse, and then we'll start layering the bandages! -- Yikes! It is not any wonder that one needs triage just to undo the bandaging...

    I'm do glad to hear that your hand is doing better. Yikes,who knew a cat bite could do that! You probably have less damage to repair because you have the right stuff in your gut to begin with. :)

    Have you ever had to take thyroid medication? And if you did, have you been able to get off it? Just wondering ....

    Our bodies are amazing. It astonishes me how one function relates to another function. We can see immediate improvement (or decline) by just changing some simple variables.

    Cheers to good health!
