First 5K of the Year - DONE!

Monday, May 05, 2014

I had a really good weekend. Saturday I rode my bike to the local sports pavilion for packet pickup for a 5K race on Sunday. Hyper-local races like this are awesome! In major suburbia like this you really can't walk / ride your bike many places. It was only about 10 minutes each way, and that 20 minute bike ride was my only exercise on Saturday. But it is hilly!

Sunday morning my running buddy picked me up and we drove to the race (hey, who am I to turn down a ride?!). It was a very small 5K/10K - I don't think they did a very good job of advertising it, but that was OK by me because there's something nice about a smaller race.

I ended up finishing in 37:32, which is pretty good for me. It's not a PR but I'll take it!

As an added bonus, my boys came out to cheer me on! This is the first time I've ever had a boyfriend (and kid!) cheer me on at a race, and it felt awesome. :) A girl could get used to this …

I have another 5K in two weeks - but that one is The Color Run where they douse you in colored cornstarch every so often so it's definitely just a fun run. I don't think it's even timed. Last year I didn't even bring my Garmin since I didn't want it to get messed up.

I didn't sleep well Saturday night (pre-race nerves??) and I didn't sleep very well last night (no idea why) so this morning I slept an extra 45 minutes, skipped boot camp, and just got on the elliptical for 30 minutes at the gym. I'm EXHAUSTED today, but I think tonight I'll go to bed early and try to catch up on some sleep.

Tomorrow, back to boot camp.

Oh! I almost forgot! I went to the outlet mall yesterday after the 5K and ended up buying a size 10 dress. TEN! YAY!! The scale may be stuck (yep! another identical weigh-in!) but SOMETHING must be working.

A big something is working! A size 10 is wonderful and all because of your efforts and diligence.

So happy you did such a great time on that race. Kudos to your boys for cheering you on.

Congratulations on the size 10 -- and the race. I dream of fitting into a size 10 -- which is amusing because I can remember crying because I had to buy size 10 pants :) Oh, how things do change.

I want to do a color run someday. I love races of all kinds, even when I know I'm going to have to walk the whole way. Have fun at boot camp tomorrow.
