Very hot and windy week

Saturday, May 03, 2014

So starting on Tuesday morning the weather here went nuts. It shot up to record degree's of heat for this time of year all over S.CA. We had gusts that were over 55+mph for over two days straight.

I tried to go to the gym on Wednesday and showed up at Planet Fitness to find the front doors wide open, all the ceiling fans on and it was boiling inside. Their AC was having trouble keeping up with the heat, and some other problems. They tend to keep it a bit warmer than any other gym I have ever been a member of (Ballys/24 Hrs.). They keep it no colder that 75 degrees, which I think is way too warm when you have 75 - 100 or more people working out inside. I don't know if it is a requirement of the city, county or state during a heat wave but ridiculous when your working out.

So I came home and didn't bother with the gym at all this week. I did get a few shorter walks in the evening when our Santa Ana winds tend to give up a little bit with the gusts sometimes even stopping for a hour or so. But they pick up again each morning, we also had a few local fires. Normal for Santa Ana winds except the winds normally come in the fall and not this time of year.

The winds let up around 1pm on Thursday, just stopped. We were able to clean up the deck which was covered in Cypress fronds, leaves and other junk. Our deck covers, of course blew off, and we just tie them back until the winds let up and then stretch them back into place. We have to replace them every 2-3 yrs. because of damage, tearing from winds like these.

Did walks both yesterday morning and today, but was pretty hot by the time I got home. Right now, at noon it is over 90+ degrees with a 10-15 mph breezes. If it wasn't for those slight winds it would already be at 100. Looks like to be a hot summer, unless some weird refusal comes our way. We had a warm to hot winter and could use some more rain. Oh did I mention just a little over a week ago we had a rainstorm hit here one night where the weather went from 80's to 50's in a few hours. Thought I was living in the Midwest. lol

I signed up to do Arthritis walk on June 1st with a group from the hospital where my doctors work at, "St. Jude Warriors" of Fullerton, CA. I'll be walking early in the morning at Edison Field (Angel Stadium to locals). This is sort of a special day because it would have been my mothers birthday. She died in 2007 of cancer but she also had arthritis.
So keeping cool in the AC. Hope everyone is doing great! emoticon emoticon

Kudos to not letting the crazy weather keep your from your appointed duty! :-)

I know I try to shift my workouts when crazy heat strikes and get myself out of bed earlier before the sun cooks everything up too much.

We have been having the same kind of weather in south TX.!! It seems to have many ups and downs from 100 to 70 back to 100. Actually last week we broke a record as 107. Figured it was time to get on the road to a little cooler temps. So today in mid 90's temp, we left the valley and are currently in the hill country (LBJ's home area) and it was 92 when we rolled in. Felt much higher too. Frustrated for our little dogs as there are thousands of sand burrs in this campground. I must have taken out 50 from one dog for a second time. Did see them trying to take them out themselves by pulling and eating them!! Didn't know they were edible!
Anyway, relaxing for the night and will head out in the morning to the border. Take care and have a great time with you walk. At this time, we just can't help out but I do hope you can make your goal!! Will be thinking about you as you walk! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

That is unreal a gym at 75???? What are they thinking? Want people to get heat stroke? Our public city owned gyms don't have A/C at all because sadly, our climate is more cold then hot :( Today its 46 and with our winds feels more like 36...
Can't imagine those winds and that temperature! Hope it eases up for you soon!
I hope your walk will have reasonable temperatures! Would love to go on a charity walk for arthritis some day.
    Have a super Sunday!

I know it is sure way to hot to be comfortable, I have not walked r 3 days today makes 4. I may venture out, but probably stick to my treadmill with fan blowing on me emoticon I thought it was supposed to be cooler today, but when my DH and I were out it registered 101 on my car, we did not stay out long, and I am afraid my garden will cook

Wow! What heat! I've been wishing for warmer weather, but not hot yet! We had a very pretty day for a Derby Festival I attended and I could wear a sundress comfortably. Take it easy in that kind of hotness! Can't wait to read about the arthritis walk! So many people affected! Keep cool!
