Inflammation = Belly Fat; But Dark Chocolate Can Be Our Friend!

I've been thinking about trying out the Anti-Inflammatory Diet.

Why that particular diet? Well, specifically because of my unwanted belly fat!!! Can you relate?!

There's a major PERK to the Anti-Inflammatory Diet... You get to enjoy dark chocolate!

Read on:

Savor one to three ounces of at least 70 percent cacao chocolate a day.

In one study, women with excessive body fat ate a chocolate-free diet of 1,700 calories a day for a week. The next week, they had the same number of calories -- but with 515 of them coming from dark chocolate each day.

At the end of the second week, the women, on average, had shed a half inch from their waists.

Chocolate contains flavonoids called catechins, which seem to reduce insulin sensitivity and the production of the stress hormone cortisol. "Erratic insulin levels and cortisol are powerful in their ability to pack on belly fat," says Pam Peeke, MD, a FITNESS advisory board member and the author of Body for Life for Women.

Dark chocolate is also high in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), which fight inflammation. Fat cells, particularly those in visceral fat (the dangerous kind in the belly that can lead to diabetes and heart disease), churn out molecules that set inflammation in motion.

It's a vicious cycle, because inflammation leads to belly fat, and belly fat leads to more inflammation.

    I just had me a slab of Lindt 90% dark chocolate available at Walmarts everywhere for about $3 bucks!!

    I need to find this other article I read - basically said to create positive rewards for exercise, to retrain that "reward" section that usually has you craving the junk food?? Instead, go exercise and then treat yourself to a piece of your favorite dark chocolate...

    ve known for awhile about anti-inflammatory aspects of dark chocolate in holding down the sinus inflammation... can eat some dark chocolate and pretty soon my sinuses start wanting to drain out a bit.

    Need to get to bed, because lack of sleep causes some inflammation!

    Never tried it but could make sense. Let us know if it works for you. Last time I lost weight it was all in my breasts. LOL !! Belly and butt stayed real close to same size. This time it does not matter to me as long as I am staying active and can BREATHE !

    Not exactly but did the flat belly diet which calls for a MUFA at each meal and it can be dark chocolate :) maybe I should try that 1 again.

    Giggling! I haven't tried the diet but I do eat a few pieces of dark chocolate every day almost. Must be the wrong kind because my waist isn't shrinking! Good luck with it and let us know how it works!
