The fates are cantankerous

Sunday, April 27, 2014

What a 24 hours it has been. Found out last night that my darling next door neighbors home had been robbed during the day while we were all at work! They've only lived there for 4 months and it is very distressing to them and the rest of the neighborhood. I was up until nearly 1:00 a.m. talking to them and trying to be a calming influence. It is very unnerving when you realize your home isn't as safe as you thought.

Had to be up by 7:30 am. Taking care of another neighbors' house and cats while she's out of town at a conference for a few days. Then had to feed my cats and dog, clean litter boxes, feed the birds in the yard, shower and be downtown by 10:30 am because I volunteered to help out at our employee celebration of our new bus center in downtown Denver. It officially opens May 9th with the ribbon cutting, but they let us enjoy the brand new space today. It is huge and I walked and walked, multiple trips from one end to the other, but my Fitbit would tell me how many steps later.

Got home about 4:00 p.m. and soon after helped my neighbors with digging dandelions. They moved in December from an apartment and have no tools, plus it was about 76 and sunny and great to be outside. I put in two hours plus digging and we barely made a dent. The house had been empty for two years before they moved in and nobody really cared for the yard properly, even the previous residents. I love working in the yard and was having fun. I then went to care for the other neighbors' cats. When I got done I looked at my FitBit and the darn thing showed the time as 9:38 am and said I'd walked 3,238 steps for the day! I knew that was ALL WRONG. I ended up having to restart the FitBit and although they say data won't be lost, my data for today was ALL LOST! BOO-HISS!!!

So - I had an incredibly active day and lots of fun and I got to see lots of co-workers who work in other parts of our facilities I talk to often but rarely get to see. I should have had about 15,000 steps and I got zip. Oh well - tomorrow is another day. More gardening and mowing the lawn IF it doesn't rain. Big IF from the weatherman on that!

Keep smiling emoticon and keep moving as best you can.

Well, heck! Gardening and housework are still exercise--you don't have to be steppin'--count it!

So sorry to hear about your neighbor. Things like that make the whole neighborhood less confident. You are so sweet and helpful you deserve major kudos for all you do to help. It's a shame your fitbit let you down!

Your a good neighbor. That is sad their house was broken into. The fact you helped them with their yard, as well as consoling them, I'm sure put a smile on your neighbor's face.
The new bus/train system looks great!

WOW...what a busy, busy day! I can't believe your darn Fitbit messed you up by cheating the step count! emoticon I'd be doing some grumbling for sure...for sure to the powers that be over in Fitbit land! emoticon Was your battery fully charged..sometimes I forget to give mine a jolt and it dies. Then I'm MAD..and it's my own silly fault! emoticon

How horrible that your neighbors got broken into. I wonder if it was people that knew the house was vacant before? We once got robbed in Coral Springs and it was what they call a 'sneaky robbery'....nothing was really displaced until I started noticing missing jewelry and our expensive camera gone!

It's a HORRIBLE sense of violation and I didn't sleep well for WEEKS imaging the intruders picking through all of my stuff.

With the economy so down it's perfectly possible and we hear about break-ins on the news every single night...ugh...makes me want to get a guard dog and a gun!

Of course then I'd have to take a gun training class and I have such a fear of firearms...I don't really know if that's the answer anyhow. People are getting robbed in toney Naples ALL the time! They think they are safe in their guard gated communities...but it's such a false sense of security and actually attracts the thieves that think there is good stuff to plunder.

Ugh....thank goodness for wonderful neighbors like you. Here in FL we hardly know our neighbors other than to say hello...and we've lived here for almost 12 years in June...people just are weird that way. Of course it COULD have something to do with the fact that I called the cops a few times for LOUD parties that went on until 2 a.m. in the morning for the neighbors on the east of us.

What's WRONG with those wing-nuts...don't they realize that just because THEY don't have to work and can laze around the house until noon before they roll out of bed...that other people DO work??

That's when I was doing my Farmer's Markets for my jewelry and had to bale out of bed at 5:30 a.m. on Saturdays.

Idiots! emoticon I even blared our alarm a couple of times just to get their idiot attention before I called them in! emoticon

Of course this made the neighbors on the other side of us...pissed..as well as the neighbors across the street too.... emoticon that alarm is enough to cause your skull to rattle! emoticon Did the trick though! emoticon At least for a good 15 minutes or so! emoticon Then we had to call the cops anyway.

Make sure your house is locked down tight...I'd get some security cameras..or in any event..at least a fake one mounted...not that idiot thieves are always deterred by those...if they are stupid enough to break in..they are surely too stupid to look for cameras...just a thought though... emoticon

Enjoy your week...we are finally back to Mondays off...so I can work on my jewelry projects again...a new bracelet design...I'll try to post pics! emoticon

Wow, sorry to hear about your neighbor. That is really disconcerting for their home to be broken into.

You certainly got a lot done even if your Fitbit doesn't reflect it. I like the way 4everness thinks! Heaven forbid you enter the steps manually. LOL

Hope the rest of your week is better. If we ever move back to Colorado and if we move to the Denver area I'll probably use the public transportation. emoticon

If the Fates were cantankerous, were you negligent with the Muses and Graces? Be grateful it wasn't the Furies. LOL

Phenomenal accomplishment and sense of achievement today, Congratulations!
And I hate to think so old fashionedly, but if you knew that you put the steps in, you couldn't simply MANUALLY (oh heaven forbid ? LOL) enter them?

I'm sorry to hear about your neighbour and can't believe all the stuff you got done. Good for you! What are you going to do with all those dandelions? My grandmother used to make dandelion wine. Never tried it, and I doubt it was all that good, but I think it amused her to make it.
