Wk 159 Weigh In

Saturday, April 26, 2014

The good news for this past week is that I didn't die sometime before today.

The bad news is that my back has been feeling like it's on the cusp of going out since Monday. My back is very finicky, it really wants 8-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night to feel rested and ready for a new day. Unfortunately for my back (and me) I've only been getting 5-6 hours of sleep each night.

Here's an analogy that kind of sums up my back and it's sleep requirements. Imagine carrying 8 bricks in a backpack all day, then for each hour of sleep you get one brick is removed from your backpack so after 8 hours your backpack is empty again in the morning, ready to load 8 more bricks into it for the day. In my lack of sleep I'm only removing 6 bricks at night, leaving 2 bricks in my backpack. So the next day I get 8 new bricks, making 10 bricks in my pack. Then only 6 get removed the next night, leaving 4 bricks, then adding 8 fresh ones. And so on and so on.

Each day my back feels worse, like carrying some left over load from all of the yesterdays that I didn't get enough sleep.

If that made any sense to anybody reading, congratulations. I just re-read it and t confused me and I knew exactly what I was talking about :(

This week's numbers (not good ones either)

Weight : 226.0
Gain : 2.4
Total : 94.0

So even while keeping my calories down I still managed to gain 2.4 lbs. I am disheartened by this greatly. But this is now a new week, a new opportunity to try and get it right.

Have a great last weekend of April.

Sorry to hear you are not sleeping enough.

As for the weight, the body reacts the way it wants and not the way we want it!
Not sleeping enough doesn't help in that dept either. You should maybe think of some aid to sleep no?

    Hopefully you'll sleep better soon!

Oh no, that was a TOUGH week! And I found your image of the bricks very effective (sadly). I suffer from insomnia from time to time when I have too many thing worrying me and I know that when I don't sleep enough, everything goes wrong... I gain weight, I get in pain and I lose my patience too! :(
I really hope you'll be able to rest today and have lots of sleep during the week, so as to improve your back and lose the weight you gained this week.
    Hang in there! emoticon

Ugh... sorry for all of the pain that you have to endure & sorry for the gain too. It sucks. Hard to lose when your body won't let you work out. I wish I could offer wonderful words of wisdom, support & encouragement ~ however, I'm just not sure what to say!!! Wish I could take the pain way. Wish there was a way to get you to sleep better and longer. Just know that we all care about you & are rooting for you. Fingers crossed for a much better week...

I understand perfectly and thought you were very eloquent in your explanation. I'm so sorry you are having this trouble..please try not to worry about the gain..stress will do that too, when you are feeling better you can work on that. Try to just hold it steady...I know 2 pounds is panic worthy but try....

I am sincerely sorry to hear about your back problems, I truly understand. I hope this new week is kinder to you, and you will feel better. Could a Tens Unit help? I use one, and depending on what kind of pain I'm experiencing it helps. When it gets bad, I put on the Tens Unit and a heating pad, I try to emulate what my physical therapist used, only her machine was bigger. Wishing you relieve soon!

Sorry about the gain and the pain. I got the analogy, excellent. I agree use up some of those pills you've been hoarding. Physio?
I can touch the floor now but the pain is still there :) oh boy!!!

Sleep is hard to come by when the pain is overwhelming. Like you say you can only hope for a better week. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Not sure what that last emoticon is but I'm saying its the pain and you're throwing it out the window- here's hoping!!!!

So I guess the question can you get more rest so that you can feel better.

    Drugs, massage...different drugs! emoticon

I know exactly what you're saying, have had issues with my back as well. Do you have any muscle relaxers you can take and the opportunity to take a day or two off from life?
Drug up and rest? Time for the doctor soon, methinks...

Sorry about the gain, but you know that's not permanent. Most pressing issue is to get your back healthy!

Sounds very painful!! I hope that you are able to get some rest this week and some relief for your back!!! I cannot imagine carrying all those bricks around! I know it is frustrating when you keep your calories low and not see a loss. Keep your head up!!!

That made perfect sense to me!

Sleep really is so important, I do hope that you can get back to a more complete night's rest, soon.
