Forty Years is a LONG time to do anything!

Sunday, April 20, 2014

Today is Easter Sunday. Today is also our 40th Wedding Anniversary.
The sheer length of forty years is mind boggling to me. Not really sure how that time has passed. I know some of the time seems to have gone in warped speed. The short time from when my daughters were born - to taking them to kindergarten - to packing them off to college ~ flew by! Balanced then by the interminable days of waking, getting them up, fed, to school, myself to work, shopping, home, laundry, cooking dinner, cleaning, organizing, planning, bed routine, waking, getting everyone up, dressed out ...etc. Ad Nauseum.

Back then, when you heard that someone was 40 years old, you thought, Oh man, they're really old! And if someone was working in the same job for 40 years, OMG..how boring that must be. And 40 years married, well, they were old grandparents. How do they stand it!?

Now Pyne and I are here ~ together - still. Same house, the one we bought, and he moved into 2 months before our wedding, and I came home to from our Honeymoon. The house we said was a good starter house. Better to buy, than rent, knowing we'd be moving out, going places.
And today I find myself in my starter house, with my starter husband, with lots of usage and old age showing on all of us. Wondering Where, and How, forty years has gone?

congratulations. I have been married 43 years. we rented to start with. We were married three years had our son, left the city, moved to the county. We lived in the same house for 37 years and hubby built us a log cabin up the hill from the home place and turned the home place into an office. You are right the time has passed so fast. I had a birthday the 25 of September and I am 68. It does not compute. I feel much younger. I look at my tall dark headed husband and see white hair that is thin, I see my hair heavy salt and pepper, I see our wrinkles and its funny, like we are not really like that, we are young and vibrant under this cover of age. We are playing at being old. We are really young. This is all so surreal.

Theresa, best wishes on your relationship, your house, your everything.

I am sorry but you really crack me up when you write. You have this Mark Twain-esque kind of humour and I love it.

I am now 64 and I can feel and remember when I was 5, 13, 19, 23, 30, 40, 50, 60...How could it be that I am my mother's age? She lived until she was 64. My brother and sister have far exceeded my dad and mom's age. If only I am so lucky!

    hugs and hugs

    Congratulation, belated but heartfelt.

I'm in the same house with same hubby and I love it. I'm 80 next year and not a person to have regrets - what's the point, eh? But I do understand what you're saying.

Time flies and you wonder where it went, where did your life go, etc. Winter is not a good time for most of us, being cooped up in the house most of the time, snowed in at times, cold outside, brrrr. But Spring is here and we can get out, get working in the garden or sit on the porch and people watch.

Enjoy your life, we only get to go round it once.

Nothing wrong with starter houses OR husbands. Can't say we're still in our first home (thank God for small favors, as we lived with his parents for a few months), but the starter husband is just fine, thank you! LOL! Here's to another 40 years...or however many God blesses you with. Wishing you all the best, Theresa! Jeannie emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticon What a great story Theresa!!! And you are so right!! back when we were young did we ever think getting to be women of a certain age would happen to us? So busy living our lives just like you said, kids, hubbies, working, taking care of everything and just one day here we are!! Where did that time go?? My mother used to say time flies and I would laugh at her!! What did I know back then???

My hubs and I are coming up on 42 anniversary this September. And I knew him for years before that, grew up with him, he was one of my brother's best friends. And the fact that he is still breathing is a testament to my patience and understanding. emoticon

Have a wonderful special day and Happy Easter!!

Congratulations. I've been married to the same man for 39 years and through all of life's ups and downs there is no one I would rather spend every day of my life with. It's such a comfort having stability in your life and someone who knows and understands you more than anyone else ever can.
