My First Walk

Wednesday, April 16, 2014

I took my first walk today (oh, I'm up late, so yesterday on tax day) emoticon . It is the first time I have walked for exercise in years. I'm excited, proud and impressed! I finished my 2nd appt for epidural injections with steroids for bulging lumbar discs infringing upon nerves one week ago. I went to the local Community center and walked 1.25 to 1.5 miles (I don't know the real distance as my car is too new to register in 10ths). I completed this journey in 23 minutes. Time includes 2 two minute stops (mainly for back/left hip cramping) and 3 thirty second stops for shortness of breath. I must say, I was amazed.
When I started the walk, I was actually scared. I didn't know if I could make it. I feel like I'm blooming along with Spring.
I told myself I'd be able to return to work when I could walk a 20 minute mile. Guess I need to get to writing a resume. WooHoo!! Though I couldn't complete it in one go without resting, I know I'm salvageable now. Thank you God for Dr. Prise who sent me to Dr. Prevo who has improved my back where I can stand (for any length) and walk (any distance) again that I've not been able to do for >1yr.

You sure have a good start again, I am glad the doctor can help with injections. Walking is my favorite exercise but our winter was so long and so harsh with snow and below zero temps I did my walking in back on a little patio while Brandy played. I have the tracker and try for 400 to 550 steps each time I take her out. I still have one knee that needs replacing but i walk with it. I will see my knee surgeon on the 30th, my 1 year anniversary for the first surgery and then start to plan the second knee replacement. My hubby is disabled and it seems like there are appts. for him all the time.
I love to have my coffee in the mornings when hubby still sleeps and I can work on the computer in peace--after Brandy has been out. Nice to meet you, thank you for the goodie, Georgine emoticon

Good for you, glad the injections are helping. Your car may have a trip odometer that does measure in tenths of a mile. Or to figure out the walking distance go to mapquest.com and put for walking directions with the addresses.
