Life sometimes turns out differently than how it was thought about or planned for; and in our case, it is Retirement. Due to complications beyond our control, I've had to do much contemplation that has brought me to a point of situation reality. I then found myself taking an inner journey to reach a point of acceptance. Finally I arrived at the opportunity to perceive what we can do that will bring some enjoyment as we go forward in this different and new phase of our lives.
For me, it is first and foremost that God is always there with me, loving and forgiving me in the times of struggle as well as joy. For without that personal relationship, I could not do it on my own.
Then the love and support of family is there and oh the joys of grandchildren as they run to you with hugs and you watch them in play and with laughter and observe their growth.
Then we are fortunate along life's path to be blessed with people who become friends that we've met at work, church, social events, through marriage, neighbors, and support groups like SparkPeople. It is with appreciation, we share with others meaningful conversations and fun times. They are there for you no matter whatever the need or reason.
Simplicity comes to mind as does the little things in life that count. It makes one take a thoughtful look to those things that can bring satisfaction to our days.
There is the dawning of each new day with the warmth of the sun, the visual beauty of dusk as the day ends and the coming of the moon appears. There is the beauty in nature like a flower with its scented bloom, the sounds of a rushing waterfall, the sights of Caribbean blue waters and white sandy beaches, a palm tree standing tall in stature, a fire pit with a flickering flame, or a squirrel scampering for food as its jumps the tree limbs.
It is these things, the images in mind or the happening at the moment that renews my spirit. Those times when you feel like you've escaped to a resort for the weekend. These photos are of a favorite place DH and I love to go to where we can retreat, a place where the spirit can feel serenity and be renewed.
Not some out of the country vacation but a weekend getaway 3 hours from home in Fargo ND. Sometimes you have to make the best of what you can with what you have. Your mind, thoughts, feelings and soul can take you on all kinds of trips...even if it is just to a hotel for the weekend. We enjoy it here!
