Bargains!

Tuesday, April 08, 2014

I went for my walk a lot earlier than usual because I knew it was going to be another hot day here in the Bay Area. Yesterday it was almost 75 degrees outside but in my bedroom it was 95 degrees. I left the house at 7:30am this morning and put in an hour long walk and it was perfect weather with a light breeze and it was cool out. It's already starting to warm up quickly! After my walk I put away the clean dishes, got my crock pot dinner ready, and went to Target with my uncle Don to help him pick out 2 packs of socks and 2 packs of briefs for himself and my bedridden uncle. I was shocked when it rang up to almost $65.00! That's a lot of money for only 4 items but they were the "value" sizes where the briefs were 9 pairs to a pack and they were $20.49 each. The crew socks were 10 pairs to a pack and were on sale for $9.00 each. Seems a bit ridiculous in price...

Tonight's dinner is a crock pot beef cross rib roast with onions, garlic, salt, pepper, italian seasonings, red potatoes, and celery. I'm going to have steamed carrots and broccoli as the side dishes to go with the meat and potatoes. It smells really good already!

Yesterday i used the new vacuum my uncle bought off of ebay and I never thought I could hate a vacuum so much but I do. It's a Dyson and to me it seems like an overpriced piece of crap. The design is horrible, it's heavy, bulky, doesn't exactly pick up like it claims to, and the canister is so small I had to keep dumping it literally every 5 minutes. The darn thing absolutely hates stairs and the "wand" is too short and awkward. If I could burn the vacuum I would in a heart beat because that is how much I hate it. My uncle paid $450 for it and for me personally I much would have rather had a Shark but since he never asked me what I'd like (I do the cleaning around here) he just went off and bought it.

I called AAA and got a call back from the insurance agent. She has added me to my boyfriend's policy as a permit driver so I am covered by the insurance and we don't have to pay anything extra for that. Once I get my license we have to notify AAA and they will add me as another driver to the policy BUT the price of our insurance will skyrocket. Just to cover me it will be $2,300 and $1,250 for my boyfriend for 1 year. That is insane but it makes sense because I will be a new driver and usually insurance rates won't go down until you've been a driver for about 7 years. I can't believe my uncles never put me in driving school when I was a teenager or let me take the class at my high school.

I made an appointment to take our car in for an oil change :) My friend's fiancée said he's pretty sure our car will need a synthetic oil and if that's the case the $30.00 price won't cover the oil change but he is going to give us a deal. He said usually a synthetic oil change with filter costs about $60-$80 and he's going to try to get the price down to $45 or so which is still an awesome deal!

We're going to Chico again soon! My boyfriend's mom has her birthday coming up so we're going to go up and visit his family and spend Easter with them since his mom's birthday is a day before Easter. I want to make sure we get the oil change done before we go since the car has notified us that maintenance is due.

Last night we went to Walgreen's to get a birthday card for one of my friend's who is having a birthday on Thursday. I picked out a card that plays music and then checked out the clearance shelves at the back of the store. We got 2 bottles of Colgate Optic White toothpaste (small bottle) for $.44 each, 4 Colgate Optic White toothpaste (big bottle) for $.82 each, Elmer's glue stick for $.69, an Oral B Vitality rechargeable electric toothbrush with extra head replacement for $8.74 (usually $35.00!!!), Colgate Wisp for $.74, all natural energy pills for $5.55 (usually $35.00!!!), and a free bottle of Walgreen's vitamin D pills because we bought Walgreen's brand triple antibiotic ointment. We saved a total of $54.57 which is 63% off :) I love finding good bargains!
