CoH quilting class

Saturday, March 29, 2014

This week in Arts & Charms class, we had this GREAT quilt pattern

The directions at the Crafty Quilter says the finished size is 51X51"
I decided that this week, I would use the pattern to create four placemats
First, I picked out my fabric from my scrap pile and cut out the pieces

Next, I sewed them together with a lot of thinking time in between stitches.
While I lost the coolness of the dangle effect of the pattern, I like the way it turned out

Here is the back of the placemat
I played around with the color combo for the next three mats...did I want yellow? Ultimately, I decided on the red...that is just too much yellow for my tastes.
I have enough squares in each color to complete my placemats. I love the way it looks on my table. I will post a pic of my table with all four mats soon.
As promised, here are my finished placemats on my kitchen table

With my fiesta dishes

I really love the backs on my white table

I feel proud and accomplished. My Mother would be pleased with my efforts.
My mind is whirling, I could make placemats for seasons, holidays...so much fabric, so little time:)

emoticon Great accomplishment! You have every reason to be super pleased with these! Anyone on your gift list would be *D*E*L*I*G*H*T*E*D* to receive something you made, i'm sure. Handmade gifts are so special.

::gasps:: Oh, my goodness, HG Cynthia Gryffindor, THESE ARE GORGEOUS!! I love that interesting "dangle effect" too. You certainly inspire me to go beyond my "squares" mentality for quilting. LOL!! Now I remember all those pre-cut squares my mother-in-law left!! She loved to patchwork everything. I have patchwork valances, curtains, cushions, pillows, and even a footstool from her. There's something heartwarming about calico and homespun. Thank you for teaching, sharing and ENRICHING us!!

The quilt pattern is wonderful but all those points terrify me. (I'm a new quilter.) I'm jealous that you know how to take a pattern and make something new from it. Good job. The placemat is really nice! Looking forward to seeing the whole set.
    Have a super Sunday!
