5-HTP

Saturday, March 29, 2014

Good day all!! I'm off work today thank goodness.

I saw this vitamin supplement on Pinterest the other day when I searched binge eating.

I'm a strong believer in not taking pills to control my diet, but this is more like a mood supporter. Kind of like an anti-depressent over the counter. I read that it can somewhat help control cravings. I didn't see any serious side effects, so I thought I would give it a try.

This is what it says on the bottle:

5-HTP, the intermediate metabolite between the amino acid Ltryptophan ans serotonin, is extracted from the bean od an African Plant (Griffonia simplicifolia)

I'm going to give it a try. Does any one else take this??

It helps in the biosynthesis of the neurotransmitters Seratonin, Melatonin, and Tryptophan. Many of the anti-depressants sold by prescription are Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitors - drug classification SSRI's. Melatonin is produced by our bodies at night to help us sleep. Tryptophan is one of the "essential amino acids" - meaning it is essential for human life and must be a part of our diet. It is necessary for protein biosenthisis and helps increase Seratonin levels in the brain to help with depression. It is converted to Melatonin to help us sleep.

I take it and really like it. It does a pretty nice job of elevating my mood, especially during dark, cloudy days, and I've noticed a slight appetite decrease from it as well. Keep us posted on how you feel after taking it for a few weeks.
