Yay for scrambled eggs! Boo for strep throat...

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

I am so very excited! I was able to eat some scrambled eggs this morning without my throat killing me. It is the first thing I have been able to eat without pain since Thursday. I can still feel my throat when I swallow, if that makes sense. In fact, my throat still hurts some, but it didn't hurt to eat. Not sure how that worked, but I'll take it! Also, I am drinking a diet coke, and it actually tastes right!!! I had one a couple of days ago, but with the infection, it did not taste right. Maybe I am starting to get better. I hope! Looking in my mouth and throat is kinda scary, still. But it is getting better, too. I will be a very happy happy camper if I never get step throat again! I never really understood how painful it is. Or how much is involved in having strep throat.

I have nothing to compare this to... Hmm, I wander, is this all normal with strep throat? Ok, I am going to list all of the symptoms that I have experienced. If you have ever had strep throat, can you tell me if this is normal? Ok, here goes:
1- started off with fever and chills and achy from head to toe.
2- next day, the glands on the sides of my neck were very swollen, and my throat was extremely sore and both ear canals hurt itched and burned. I could barely move my head at all.
3- everything in the back of my throat was very swollen and looked like it was covered in 2nd degree burns, as well as covered in spots of infection. (Including the uvula)
4- My lower lip, both nostrils and the bottom of my nose are covered in cold sores.
5- it has taken a week to start feeling like I might start feeling better.

I think that covers it. If you have had strep throat, does this sound like an average case of strep? The doctor had told me that I could go back to work in 2 days, that would have been Monday. I think I might be able to go back tomorrow, but I am still not sure about that. I am just trying to figure out why this has been so darned hard on me. I usually bounce back from being sick much faster than this... maybe I am just getting old...

I was reading my discharge papers from the urgent care, it turns out I have tonsillitis, too. No wonder I was so sick! The doctor hadn't mentioned that.

I only had strep throat once, and it was years ago, so I don't remember all my symptoms, but I do remember it was the worst sore throat I ever had, and it seemed to take a long time to heal. Maybe you had some other virus going on along with the strep? Anyway, I wish you a speedy recovery!
