I sit here typing today, looking how far I have come. I have lost 18 lbs so far and am feeling awesome about my accomplishments thus far. I started my new lifestyle change in January and it is now near the end of March. I have been working gym time into this whole new lifestyle change as well as working on my eating choices. I do have to say thus far probably 99 percent of my weight loss success has been due to my healthier eating choices. One problem I think we all encounter during this journey is the challenge of continuing to live an active social life while still maintaining your healthy food choices. It isn't easy but with determination you can still go out to eat with family and friends. I usually try to prepare ahead. If the restaurant has a menu online I will go ahead and check it out before getting to the restaurant, have my choice made up before I get there, that way there is no need to tempt yourself by looking at the menu. If there isn't a large selection of healthy fare I will eat a little something before I go, and then there is usually the old salad standby if nothing else is available. I drink water to avoid any extra calories. One problem that I also encounter with people that aren't on this journey of incorporating a healthier lifestyle, is that they often ask can't you just go off your diet for one day? I try to explain to them first of all this isn't a diet, but a lifestyle change, secondly, I could find things to celebrate daily that would fall into a celebratory occasion to eat unhealthy for one day. I try to explain to them that I am happy with the meal choice that I have made and don't feel deprived. It however seems to bother them much more than it does me. So many people act like they feel guilty for making the food choices they are making, compared to mine. I then have to explain that it doesn't bother me if they choose to have a fried chicken dinner with mashed potatoes slathered in gravy with broccoli smothered in cheese, and my choice was to have a grilled chicken breast, with grilled vegetables and a salad, the whole point was to enjoy the company. As I delve farther into my journey I am finding all kinds of ways to have awesome tasting food, with a variety of choices and still being healthy. I find it unfortunate for others that they feel if you are choosing to eat healthy that you are basically reduced to eating "Rabbit Food". In my new cooking ventures I have found so many new ways of preparation and the uses of different spices that sometimes I have to think is this really healthy for me. I love those moments. So please people understand that when that moment comes when I feel that I just can't miss the opportunity to eat something I can only get once a year, I shall indulge for that moment, and savor that slice of pizza, in the mean time I am happy to eat my healthy choices. My wish for all of you reading this blog, is that you enjoy the adventure with experimenting with new food items as well as cooking methods, it is an adventure daily that I look forward to taking.
