WORKING TO PUT SPRING BACK INTO MY HEART

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

PRIORITIZING MY HEALTH OVER ALL THAT LIFE THROWS AT ME IS STILL AN OVERWHELMING CHALLENGE.

ANOTHER TRIP TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM THIS WEEK AND HOSPITAL VISITS WITH UNCERTAINTY WITH MY DH HEALTH PUTTING MY HEALTH FIRST FOR MYSELF AND FOR HIM IS STILL DIFFICULT. I ALLOW MY FEARS AND ANXIETY TAKE OVER AND THE FOOD CREEPS IN TO COMFORT ME.

I HAVE MADE SOME EFFORT THIS PAST MONTH TO CLENSE MY SOUL AND BODY BUT NEED MORE OF A MAJOR EFFORT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. THE SNOW MELTING, THE TEMPERATURES MORE MILE WITH THE SUN SHINING AND SKIES BLUE LIFT MY SPIRITS SOME AND I WILL CAPITALIZE ON THAT FOR NOW.

Prayer, prayer and more prayer. Remember, we can do all things with God's help.

That doesn't mean we wont stumble and fall, but He is always there to catch us and put us back on our feet. emoticon

Sorry you have to deal with this.

If you find yourself reaching to food for comfort, try to at least slow down long enough to actually enjoy it. Remind yourself that you're doing the best you can for yourself in the moment.

It's not a cure for the calories, but I find sometimes the reminder is enough to help me switch to a better comfort mechanism.

Sending a hug. Having an ill spouse is so difficult to deal with. Just do the best you can at the time and accept that it is all you can do. Don't beat yourself up with woulda shouda done this or that. Try to remember that keeping yourself healthy is one of the best ways to help him.

Hi Yvonne, I understand how you feel. . .when we have sick loved ones it's the "loving Caretaker" in us that always puts their needs before our own. When my son was going through a "nightmare" of a medication change I literally didn't have time to shower or do my hair very often. I went to several Dr. appts. with him looking like something the "cat drug in" but it was a lot about the stress and sleepless nights that made me not even take care of myself or ,y needs anymore. Thankfully things are going better with him hence me also. So sorry your don't have much relief from being your DH caretaker and when you do you're probably so stressed and tired you don't care at that moment about taking good care of yourself. Is it possible you could hire a nursing student to come watch your DH while you take a half day off to simply get away even if it's you sitting in a coffee shop and reading, writing, etc. Right now losing weight isn't your top priority anymore and I hope when your life calms down more you can once again regain your focus. Believe me I'm not judging you in any way as I've been there myself more than most people know. Right now all you can do is what you can and not feel guilty you're not Superwoman 24/7 emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon . . .

    Love You,

It is hard to put yourself first when the reality is that there are times when others do come first in the daily scheme of things. I understand exactly what you are saying...that's where I am myself right now (and I suspect many of us are). Jackie said that our egos take us back to the familiar, and believe me, I know that first hand, too. Do the best you can and take care of yourself as much as possible! Hugs, Jeannie

When we have the stress of a health issue, it is always difficult to focus on our goals.... And, I believe our bodies innately turn to "desiring calories", hanging onto to e-v-e-r-y--s-I-n-g-l-e one of them, and storing as much water as we possibly can!! LOL

As others have said, for now give yourself a breather and focus on very simple small goals: eat well as much as possible, drink plenty of good fluids, and in about a week...reset from where you are at then...more small healthy goals.

Take Care! We are thinking of you!

IF anything, try to reach out for at least one healthy meal a day even though you continue to turn to comfort food. I know how hard it is, but if I force myself to at least eat one fruit or one serving of veggies a day and have at least one glass of water, then I would have made an effort to eat/drink healthy on a small daily basis.

Praying for the best concerning your hospital/health concerns.

Take care of yourself Yvonne ... I understand totally. What could you do for yourself to help comfort you that isn't food... Our egos always go back to the familiar... Prayers for you and your family. Love, Jackie
