Oh my! This is so beautiful and HAPPY. In fact, I must echo _BABE_"s comment here,
"It fills me with the feeling of spring and after my long winter".

Trev, thank you for this beautiful gift!! My mom played oboe and it brings back beautiful memories! Not to mention, as I sat here, eyes closed, listening, my childhood imagination of someday living in England, in a little English cottage set amidst cozy hills and lea where I, my cats, and dog are enjoying a beautiful stroll. After my hectic Friday, I feel so relaxed. I will be listening to this often and look forward to future movements.

    Oh, THANK YOU!!!

TREV Our son aged 7 came home from school and said he wanted to play the oboe. I asked him what it was I knew the orchestra but it surprised me. He told me it is the most important instrument in the orchestra, I asked why so he said the orchestra has to tune to the oboe so it is the most important instrument.
I asked the music teacher when can he play an instrument I was told next year, A week later the music teacher found me in the school library I was the volunteer librarian. I was told they had a school Oboe from when the school had an orchestra. It needed to be refurbished and we paid to have that done.
He loved it, I loved it and one day I was approached by another teacher to give him private lessons. He had heard him play and he wanted to encourage him. Eventually that teacher approached DH and I about an Oboe for sale from the Chicago symphony. He had it refurbished and we got an excellent deal on a Lauray instrument. Needless to say our son was in orchestras at 16 . BUT his love in life was Physics so he did not pursue music in University. He still has the instrument and makes his reeds but it is just his hobby now.
Pat in Maine I will have to listen tomorrow I am LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. THANKS -- emoticon PAT

Oh, Trev!! This was incredible. I didn't know an oboe could sound so amazing-I had a sister who honked her way thru 3 years of clarinet lessons so it put me off the woodwinds for quite some time. I really enjoyed this. Listened the second time reclining with my eyes closed, visualizing the Emerald Isle (I've been searching for St. Pat's material for Monday's blog). It was just incredible. Thank you so much for sharing, and introducing me to what an oboe can sound like!! Will anxiously await the next segments!!

Thanks for those wonderful comments - there will be two more movements very soon - I shall add the second movement which is a lyrical and slow "largo" and a third movement which is a brisk "Allegro Scherzando".
The whole concerto runs 16-17 minutes so you will have it all very soon.
    Cheers and love,

    Great it has worked -
This is the first movement of my Oboe concerto that I mentioned in the fifth part of my interview posted a little while ago. I found a way of converting it from a computer score to a wave file and although a little fiddly I have managed to get it to work for all of you to hear it.
It is the first of three movements and now I know how to do this I shall add the following two movements over the coming week.
Hopefully you can hear a sound representation of the rolling hills and countryside of Devonshire and Dartmoor - the beautiful landscapes we have around here that inspired it.
My wife who is a woodwind specialist tells me the Oboe part although difficult is manageable so if any of you know an orchestra and an oboist who want to give it a go then please encourage them to get in touch with me and we should be able to take it from there.

Cheers and love to you all.
