HM training notes - Wednesday 3-miler

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

Another unexpected schedule change today - daughter was sick in middle of night, so I canceled my subbing job for this morning. Thankfully, when she woke up, she was feeling all better, but I decided to keep her home from school today. Since she was feeling ok, I decided to go for a quick run. My original plan for this week was to run Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday - so other than some minor adjustments, I met my goal.

I decided to run up Water Tank Climb which made my run a bit longer than the planned 3 miles. It turned out to be a 3.59 mile run. I also decided it was time to practice going down Water Tank Climb as well. Usually, when I get to the top of the climb (which is a very rough, 4wd path) I come back down via a paved road. But, I know that descent training is just as important at ascent training on rocky trails. Funny thing - I fell while running on this lovely, rocky trail, but it wasn't on my way down - it was on my way up (I was going extremely slow so the fall was no big deal).

As far as the descent - it was pretty fun, and I took my time to be careful. I love descents when I can just let me legs fly freely, but this was not one of those types (or I would have crashed for sure!)

Today's run stats: 3.59 miles in 39:08 with a 10:55 pace and a 424ft climb.

When you talked about your legs flying freely, I had a memory of how that used to feel for me many years ago. I remember how free that felt going down a grade, but up hill not so
