That damn scale

Friday, March 07, 2014

I have stepped on the scale once a week every week for over a month and it has not budged AT ALL. While this is usually incredibly frustrating, at first I was confused thinking I plateaued so I tried a few things to get over that hump but the scale still did not move. Then I just began to ignore the number and focus more on how I felt (pretty good) and how my clothes were fitting (slightly looser). Still that number is hard to ignore. Usually if it moves in ANY direction I am relieved because I know I either have made progress, or gained muscle mass, or have room fro improvement, etc. but not moving at all is just darn frustrating. Then my boss asked me yesterday if I had lost weight. Made my day! I can't really tell since I see myself all the time, but he had been out of the office off and on for about two weeks so we kept missing each other. Made me pretty darn happy and I made sure to tell the scale this entire story when I stepped on this morning and it hadn't moved!

    Sorry this is so late...
Yes - the scale only shows a number, but I get it. Mine hasn't budged in a while, either. But...I also got a compliment. Try to focus on those NSVs!

One of the things I keep reminding myself is that every time we lose any bit of weight, it feels really great at first, and then we kind of adjust to it. If we aren't careful, we start to convince ourselves that nothing has changed, even though we know it has. I don't know if that makes any sense, but I guess what I'm saying is remember that you are in the right direction and don't dismiss the progress that you've already made just because the scale hasn't moved in a while. It doesn't take away from the successes you've already seen!

That scale is your friend!! Why? because it'll never lie to you... You're probably building some lean muscle, and dumping some unwanted stuff that's why you're most likely looking AND feeling better... If you and others are seeing changes, then COOL! Don't worry about the scale...

Scales have a mind of its own. I know exactly what you are saying. Mine didn't move for months. Thought it was broken and got another one. Same thing and then it changed out the blue and started going...UP!!! emoticon but it's going down this year. emoticon

Barbanna, I am not giving up. Nor am I discouraged. I have chosen to give the scale a piece of my mind and let it know in no uncertain terms that I am not defined by the number it displays. That was the whole point of this blog. Guess I need to be more succinct next time I post.

The scale is just one way to determine your loss but your clothes and how you feel is much better. Don't give up!
