Chance, Accident, Choice (2014 - Blog #60)

Saturday, March 01, 2014

What a good feeling it was to go out for a run today. The weather, although it was in the forecast that it might snow a bit, was quite perfect. Rainy and chilly but still pleasant. Had the good rain jacket on and was well layered. Much easier to run in the muck than in the heat.

Anyways, I had made a date with two friends to go meet for coffee and I think that my morning blog spurred me to not drive there but run there. Since I had told them I was close by, they had texted me extra early when they were about to leave their place and so I had time to bundle up and run to the coffee shop. I had read a few inspiring blogs this morning so I was well positioned to just go run. AHHHHHHH!!! And, I ran the entire way .. about 2 miles to the shop.. a break and then another 2.5 miles back (did some extra blocks on the way back.)

As I was running, I was thinking about three words : CHANCE, ACCIDENT and CHOICE. If it is about my own life, I think there are a few truths I can apply.

emoticon When I say things like, man, I ate that by accident, I am not telling myself the truth. I made that choice, no matter how much I want to deny it. (And that goes for healthy or unhealthy foods.)

emoticon When I say things like, yeah! by chance I was able to make it to my goal for water today - I am not telling myself the truth. I made that choice.

emoticon When I say things like, It was like by accident that I gained weight - I am not telling myself the truth. I made choices that got me where I am.

(BTW - BY ACCIDENT and BY CHANCE are also known by the phrases: "I have no idea how this happened" or "Geez, wonder how that happened?!" or similar… )

BY CHANCE and BY ACCIDENT take the responsibility and power away from me. Sometimes, I deflect and things happen by accident or by chance. I simply shift the responsibility to someone else, something else. And, by default, I find that I cannot do anything about it. Sometimes, I am a victim and things happen by accident or by chance. I simply remove the power from my own hands and I am sucked dry of energy or motivation.

REFLECTIVE MOMENT: When I am able to look myself deep in my soul and know that I in fact do have a CHOICE, I am energized by the power of that choice.

Pretty darn cool, when you think about it. CHOICE is what lines the path to a goal I want to achieve… not accident, not chance… pure choice.

May your day be fill with the POWER of your own choices.

Quote of the day
"I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it."
Pablo Picasso

MANTRA: Every opportunity is a choice. Every choice is an opportunity. (me)
