"Just too busy being fabulous"

Thursday, February 27, 2014

The past week or so has been crazy in my world again. My brother (who is currently in the middle of a nasty ugly divorce) and my nephew are moving an hour away. Not a huge distance really, but when you don't drive it sucks. So I've been doing a lot of hanging out with my little dude. Also work. So. much. work. And meetings. Then some more work, followed by a couple more meetings.

Tomorrow is the big ol' awards ceremony for where I work/volunteer. If you speak the language, it's our council court of honor. If you don't, it's where all of the adults involved in the BSA congratulate themselves and each other for a job well done. Admittedly there are boring bits. Even for those of us who are heavily involved. HOWEVER, four of my friends are getting a BIG award (If you speak the language, they're getting Silver Beaver. If you don't, we all acknowledge that it's a ridiculous name for an award and we all still snicker and make dirty jokes about it), so that's going to make it really fun this year :)

This year, I am most excited for my DRESS! Don't get the wrong impression, this isn't the boy scout Oscars or anything. The vast majority of attendees will be in boy scout uniforms. HOWEVER. I don't think there is an outfit in all of the cataloged universe that I loathe more than my uniform. I never ever ever EVER wear it unless I absolutely have to. This is obvious, but they are just not made for fat chicks. Uncomfortable, unflattering, just... A whole lotta NOPE. So I am wearing a dress. I have always been pretty terrible at being a girl. No fashion sense, minimal makeup skills, minimal interest in jewelry of any kind. But every now and then I LIKE dressing up. Especially when there is someone I feel is WORTH dressing up for :)

Unfortunately for us plus sized ladies, our options are pretty slim. And despite being fashion-challenged for the most part, I am SUPER picky about what I wear. I am not a fan of the dress choices at the ~basic~ places like Lane Bryant or Avenue. It feels like I'm too young for a lot of that they have to offer. Conversely, I feel too old for much of the selction at places like Torrid. My dress shops of choice are the following:

Old Navy (for casual/basic stuff)
Ashley Nell Tipton (for something a little more fun)
eShakti (for everything from casual to formal (well, my kind of formal lol))

Ladies who love dresses, ladies who want to love dresses, or ladies who begrudgingly need a dress for some reason, GET TO GOOGLING! eShakti is probably my favorite because you can get a dress in any size and the styles are fun and Mad Men-esque :)
