What is Your Motivation?

Why are you here on SP? How long have you been here and what are your goals? What is YOUR why?

I've been really thinking about this because personally - I came to SP almost 8 years ago to lose weight and get healthier - yet here I am still not at my goal weight but I am MUCH healthier! Throughout the years, I have learned to be more positive. I have learned about the importance of accountability, and most importantly community support. I have learned that I am not alone in the ups and downs and that by sharing, I learn and make progress.

Our success is not always measured by the numbers on the scale. The lessons we learn through the journey are sometimes worth more than that.

I will say this though - my motivation and reasons for wanting to get to my goal weight have changed throughout the years. I have aimed to lose weight for specific events, occasions and reasons and what I have learned is that as my body is changing with my age (I'm going to be 48) - the things that worked in the past for me to lose weight don't necessarily work today. And so it means getting creative, accessing more resources and changing things up.

I have been yo-yo'ing in the same weight range now for about 3 or 4 years and I am determined that THIS year - change will happen as I try to learn more about my body through counseling, blood work and simply evaluating where I am at in life right now with my children (now teenagers) and the stress levels and demands on my life.

These are all factors that affect our success on this journey, which is why each of our strategies will be unique to what will work for our lifestyles.

I have also learned to focus on what I WANT - not what I don't want... the law of attraction principle. Sometimes we dwell too much on the negatives ... about our body image, or habits - what we need to do is shift to noticing the GOOD in what we have now - the parts of our body that we love and accept as it is NOW.

I will say that my motivation volume is turned up because right now - I have great things to look forward to - a photo shoot March 30th and a trip to Barbados May 13. I also have my daughter's graduation in June and I have not seen her father in ages... won't it be 'sweet' to be feeling on top of the world in my body with my regular workouts... Feeling confident, sexy and beautiful - kind of one of those 'reunion' moments ... Karma baby!! emoticon ... I know that we must always lose weight and be healthy for US first - and I truly am ... these are just the extras that come with losing weight and feeling better/healthier... Not only do WE feel better, but people around us notice how much happier we are.

It's not always easy to stick to this motivation - but friends - we must find that focus, VISUALIZE how you will feel - the details, what you will be able to wear, how people will react... all of it! FEELINGIZATION baby!!

    Spite is an excellent! I don't care what anyone says! sometimes when I feel like stopping during a workout, I picture myself running into one of the many ppl who have hurt me over the years and looking good and strong and It always makes me push a little harder. You got this!

    My Why on dropping the weight is to get healthy, learn to eat and feel better, alleviate the pressure on my knees and have more energy!

    I found SP almost 7 years ago, in search of yet another secret weight loss cure... :)

    Spark and my SparkFriends helped me get the diet mentality out of my head. I discovered that losing weight and keeping it off can never work if food is your main focus. Sounds backwards, I know. What I've learned is that if you take care of yourself, physically, mentally, spiritually, if you find your happy, if you eat right and exercise, weight loss happens. It seems to be a byproduct of self care.

    I've been at goal for a couple of years now. Maintaining, much like losing, takes daily work and fine-tuning. I don't expect that to go away. But I'm okay with that.

    A daily dose of SP is just the right medicine to keep me on track. Love my SparkFriends (have seen many come and go). SP is one absolutely necessary item in my toolbox.

    My why? To improve my health, alleviate pain
    in my knees and be able to do more with my GC.
    I have been here 5 years and don't regret one
    moment. Now my goal is to just maintain and
    never look back. You can do it!
