Week 5 Virtual Trek in Tasmania! The Waters!

Monday, February 24, 2014

Water, water everywhere and here I am drinking tea again this morning getting ready to enjoy the next week in Tasmania. Tassie is a island surrounded by the sea and it has within it a beautiful huge temperate rainforest filled with gorgeous flora and fauna sometimes dripping with rain forming little pools around our boots and leaving puddles in our boot tracks. This past week we enjoyed seeing the water underneath kayaks and speeding along on the Devil Jet which we rode up and down the Derwent River. On the Devil Jet we held onto our hats, that is, our helmets when we weren't busy holding onto one another for dear life! The kayaking was a bit more slow and gently paced as we glided along the river in our red, green, blue or yellow kayaks. Occasionally we got a bit topsy turvy, but with a twist of our paddles we always came right side up smiling. The birds chattered and sang on either side and flew away if they were startled by our laughter and our splashing one another. We've enjoyed Tassie's many beaches on this trek, some shining golden in the sun while others had a pink glow with waves kissing the shores. Soooo... very beautiful!

We went to the Royal Botanical Garden near Hobart and enjoyed the manicured lawns and lovely cultivated flowers of all sorts. We walked across the red bridge in the Japanese garden and looking down saw beautiful water lilies floating peacefully on the water below being visited by honey bees and butterflies. A bit further on we saw a water wheel sending water into the spillway below and rushing ever onward downstream. The sound of the water falling there was reminiscent of the amazing waterfalls we've seen on the Tassie Trek. Gazing into falling water is a moment of solitude to be enjoyed as we marvel at all of the things we have seen and experienced on our trek.

Many of the nights spent in our fancy digs we all got to enjoy warming up in the sparkling bubbly of the spa at the end of a busy day. Our ouchy muscles and joints soaked up the warmth of the water. We were refreshed and enjoying one another's company we talked about what adventure the next day of trekking might hold for us. We wondered about all the things we would see and do or taste and enjoy as we continue visiting Tasmania, this island of wonderful waters.
