HM training notes

As I'm training for my half-marathon which is on April 19, I plan to use "blogging" to keep track of my training - feel free to read along through my training (but, fair warning, it might be kind of boring...)

I ran my first half-marathon last spring. It was a very challenging trail course - but I did it! This spring I was looking forward to traveling to Idaho to run in the Race to Robie Creek trail run hm, but since it's the Saturday before Easter, I had to sadly pass on it this year (no way I can miss being home on Easter with 3 young kids!) So, I've found a closer hm on that same date which is also a trail run. (But, I've already got Robie Creek 2015 on my calendar for next year.)

I am currently in week 4 of Hal Hidgon's training program. Yesterday was supposed to be a 4 mile run, but since I couldn't get in an outdoor run, I compromised with 35 minutes on the elliptical. Today, I did get in my 4 mile run in 38:53 (9:43 pace). Not a great time, but I ran the horse trails around my neighborhood and the terrain is quite varied - and slow going through the sandy parts. (I'm sure the sandy parts are nice for the horses, but not real easy for keeping up a quick pace).

Tomorrow is a rest day, then Saturday will be my longest run of the week - 7 miles.

Feel free to join me in my training - the more the merrier (and motivating, too).

    We used to call that 'cross country' running. I think now they call it trail running and it's much harder! Great going!

    I'll be joining you! I don't run any longer, but I'm familiar with the aches and pains of it.

    Running on sand and trails is good for you. You don't need to make good time, because you're getting such great benefit in other ways. When I used to run, I found I did much better on any natural ground, rather than concrete.

    So I look forward to reading about your journey!
    (April 19th is my birthday too)

    I just wrote my first blog this week, and I think it's my missing link to keep me motivated and accountable. I felt so great after writing and all the support really warms my heart!
