If I Only Knew Then What I Know Now...

For years I took our five kids to lessons, classes, and activities like dancing, soccer, swimming, wrestling, Scouts, baseball, cheer leading, gymnastics, horseback riding, play practice, piano, violin, flute, drums, choir, and camps of all kinds. You name it and one of them probably did it. In the meantime I taught aqua aerobics 2 to 4 times a week, or worked part time in nursing or counseling. Did I get enough other exercise for myself? Probably not, since I never lost any of my baby weight gain. Of course I was cooking for 7 and eating all the leftovers and fixing kid foods and comfort foods and eating and eating. I hit an exercise class now and then and the swimming pool every summer, but my hit or miss exercise wasn't enough and I yo yo'd a lot. I joined Tops and lost 30 pounds only to regain it and lose it again. I tried a faith based weight loss program with friends, but it didn't help with the amount of weight I needed to lose and learn how to keep off. Consequently I have been overweight and now obese for the past 30 years more or less.

It was only when a friend told me about Spark People that I could see some hope for my future in this weight loss business. I understand what I have to do now, and it makes sense to me. I realize I need to track my food and my emotions, as well as my exercise and my aches and pains. I have to figure out what I can do to help myself without hurting my bad knees and shoulder while strengthening my arms and chest so I can rehab those muscles affected by my mastectomy and breast reconstruction. My abs are under there somewhere along with all my other muscles waiting to be used and strengthened. I have to keep trying the seated video exercises (Chair Exercise Team) and swimming and walking in water to ease the pressure on of my knees because fat floats! I have to make a change, a lifestyle change, and do what I can for as long as I can when I can. If I expect to have a healthier enjoyable old age and keep playing with my grandchildren I need to keep Sparking now!!!
