123# lost.. Arm Skin Removal Surgery and in general an update

Sunday, February 16, 2014

I'm bouncing between 202 and 205.. and have been for a while now.. s'ok.. my body continues to change thanks to lifting heavy weights.. I need a shirt that says "Body Remodeling Under Way" LOL I am solidly in a size 10 WOOT WOOT.. but when last I blogged I was going to have brachioplasty (arm lift) surgery and promised updates..

I had surgery December 16th... everything went well.. here's the immediate post op pic compared to the pre-op before picture

There were both staples and internal stitches and my doctor did the Posterior approach which is what I requested.. I wanted the hangy down lump of skin over my elbows gone and to do that required the posterior approach.. this is post op day 1.. staples intact.. all the lines are the marks the surgeon made..

The staples came out on day 4.. the pictures below are two weeks post-op.. still swollen but already the scars are looking good.. and I like how you can't see them when I show off my guns LOL

Do I like them??? I LOVE THEM!! The swelling is completely gone now.. when to the doctor the other day and she didn't have to use the big cuff!! I no longer have to limit myself to stretchy shirts that will fit my arms, I can wear NON-stretchy blouses! I can wear t-shirts!! and when summer gets here I'm going to rock tank tops!.. but the best part is I no longer make unpleasant sounds when working out.. it was always so embarrassing.. The scars are looking fabulous and I'm amazed at how good they look.. in a year they will practically be invisible.. from behind you can only see the scars over the elbows so it kinda looks like I had elbow surgery.. LOL.. regardless, I am over the moon happy with the outcome.

I continue to do CrossFit 3-4 times a week and I lift heavy weights.. however, remember when I had to wear the boot for three months for my achilles in the fall? Well, it caused me to change my gait which shifted my pelvis and caused me to have bursitis in my hip and flared up a herniated disc I've had for a long long time causing shooting pains down my left leg cuz the disc was compressing my femoral nerve.. anyhoo, I used my surgery recovery time to go to physical therapy to get everything the boot caused to get out of whack back in line.. my orthopedic doc says it will take another six months to get everything back where it belongs.. I said "so let me get this straight? I wore the boot for 3 months and it caused another 9 months of issues??" his response? "yes." LOL whatever.. thanks to my heavy weight lifting I am stronger than ever so what in the past would have put me flat on my back in bed is now only a nuisance.. THANK YOU STRONG CORE!.. I laid off of back squats for two months and finally started back doing them again this week.. YEAH!! in the meantime, I've been working on my olympic lifting like snatches and clean and jerks... SO. MUCH. FUN.

I continue to eat Paleo and feel fantastic.. frustrated a bit by the plateau but after 123# loss am i really going to bitch about it?? Nah.. plus, my original goal was to get to a size 12.. and I've surpassed that because I am firmly in a size 10 at 5'11" 204lbs... crazy but I like it!

My mind has really shifted to focus on being FIT and STRONG rather than weight loss.. March 2nd will be my 1 year anniversary of starting CrossFit and Paleo.. I thought I wanted to be in ONEderland but really?? I am very happy where I am but know that I could stand to lose another 15lbs or so.. we'll see.. really enjoying living my new life.. and am so so thankful!

So, I'll leave you with this pic of me from a party I attended last Friday..

Lift Heavy, Lift Often!

I didn't know this. Good for you. I've done stomache and thigh lift. I decided my story is I was a magicians assistant and the sawing in half trick went totally awry. It's a more interesting story for the scar all around my body than lost 200 lb

Wow Annie you look awesome! I want that surgery so bad. I haven't check into it yet because I'm pretty sure insurance won't cover it and I don't have that kind of money. Thanks for sharing and so happy for you!

That looks really familiar. I loved mine when I had them done and for several months after but my skin didn't have enough or any elasticity and it didn't last. I'm sure yours will!

Wow, you look amazing. I am so happy for your success. I do have to say that I need that same flabby arm surgery after I lose the rest of my weight but honestly it looks very painful and I am scared to death to do it.

So Paleo and lots of weight lifting is the trick. I will have to look into the Paleo, I have heard it mentioned but just not sure what the heck it really is. All I can say is that you found what works and you have worked it and now you look fantastic. Keep up the great work.

I also have changed my tune about the whole weight thing, because who knew a healthy 203 could even be in a size 10. Just cannot go by weight or what others say or think. Proof is in the pictures!!!

What a great post! Congrats on the fantastic weight loss, and good luck with a speedy recovery from your surgery!

Can I ask how heavy you were when you started crossfit? I'm thinking about it myself, but at 245 pounds, assumed I am too heavy.

What a great picture of a beautiful lady! I'm so impressed by you!

I wonder if you might be willing to discuss how the surgery felt in terms of pain or physical restrictions... what sort of post-op therapies... how long the recovery took? I ask, because I've lost *so* much weight that my expected surgery (when I finally get to goal) is going to encompass a whole/total "body lift". One doctor says he thinks the tissue reduction may come to 30-50 pounds. Yikes.

I was just wondering what I'm in for; I do better hearing and preparing for even bad news if I can get it firmly in my mind, and develop some kind of mental strategy. I already expect to be in a bed and fitted out with drains... but I'm not sure how much discomfort to prepare myself for. I guess everyone varies there... and I'm not to that point yet!

But seeing how beautifully your arm surgery went encourages me!
    You look *GREAT*

I really love how you posted pics of your arm surgery. I will probably want to talk to you more about this in the future. I have lost about 75, and I am already having problems with arm skin hanging. And I have to buy bigger sizes of shirts to accommodate my arms, too :(

You look fabulous and it is very encouraging to see someone be so successful! Congratulations!

I had the same thing done, only the scars were more minimal. I love it, too!! When trying on jackets, they always talk about bust and shoulder measurements, and length of hem and sleeve, but never the circumference of the sleeve. Now they will all fit!! Well worth the discomfort and every penny it took!
