My sabotage person is my family. Since I started Sparks my husband has decided to cook meals which are always fried foods. My grown children take me out to dinner at buffets and pizza places. I try the best I can to stay within my limits but makes it twice as hard to resist temptations.

I don't know why this happens, but it does for so many people trying to work on their health goals. Family and friends sometimes are not comfortable with the changes in us.

This is where we have to set the ground rules for ourselves. Before your husband starts cooking...remove your portion and then cook your own. Smile and say I will take care of mine Hon.

Kids want to take you out? You pick the restaurant or go online and see what you can order. Tell them thanks but to hold off till you lose a certain amount of weight, say 10 pounds...and then let them take you out to celebrate.

Gently but firmly say Thanks, but no Thanks and stand your ground. Once they see how determined you are...hopefully they start supporting you.

Have you shared your health/weight loss goals with you family? Have you been clear about how important these goals are to you? Talk with your husband about alternative cooking methods (making sure to let him know that you appreciate his cooking efforts, but working together to find healthier ways to cook foods--baking, grilling, steaming, etc.). Same thing with your kids--thank them for taking you out, but suggest some healthier alternatives or at least some restaurants that have salads. If you do go for pizza, see if you can get a salad, then enjoy it and one or two pieces of pizza. Plan ahead for those nights you know you are going out, then stand firm. You are so worth it!
