2/6/14 You are the trophy

I like running because, more than most other sports, you're aren't competing to be number one. Races have thousands of participants, and there is only one first place. Oh sure, they do "first in your age group" but that's still not an attainable goal for most runners. No one wants to aim for something they don't think they can win. But in running, it really doesn't matter if you come in first. You're mainly competing against your past self. And whether or not you beat your past self is almost entirely up to you. You know exactly how hard your competitor trained, how much work they put into it and you know for sure, in your heart of hearts, how you stack up to them. And even if you don't "beat" yourself, if you put your all into it, you can really feel good about it. I put my all into running this week.
As a progress update, I did super well this week. I got in all the work outs I wanted and I cooked dinner at home Sunday through Thursday. I'll probably wreck everything this weekend (have two slumber parties to attend! that makes me sound 12, adult slumber parties? that makes me sound promiscuous. One girly throw back party and a dinner party that will probably extend into the night so I don't have to worry about driving home) But at least I started ahead!
