Day 4 - Boundaries, Not Diets

Wednesday, February 05, 2014

The reading for today's challenge talks about following a path, rather than a rigid completely on or completely off diet. And when a person might stray from a path, they can get back on it, get going in short order back in the goal direction.

I have never really 'dieted' in the sense of trying to follow a rigid, temporary plan for weight loss. Hmmm - take that back, I did do a brief stint with Weight Watchers years ago, got to goal weight, but felt the program lacked in helping me to change my insides, my way of thinking about myself and healthy eating. I remember asking the leader about this, but she did not have much to say or any resources beyond the points plan.

In doing this challenge, I am trying to focus on cultivating good habits for dealing with my emotions and developing a healthier food habits.

The specific instructions for today's challenge said to define my eating and exercise plans for the narrow road of weight loss and the wider road of maintenance. Then I am to decide on ways to be flexible without losing sight of the road I want to follow.

Do 100 Days Challenge - and then continue to explore resources for emotional eaters
Plan food - within SP guidelines
Prep food
Track food
Run 3x/week - train for half-marathons
ST & other cardio 2x/week
Yoga/stretching 1x/week

Same - using SP food guidelines for maintenance

I think maybe I am missing something here - or maybe some days' challenges will speak me less than other days'. As best I can tell right now, my path is roughly the same, with possibly greater allowance for calories consumed and possibly lower levels of exercise during maintenance. But I might exercise more depending on my fitness goals. I am looking forward to greater flexibility this year since I am not training for another marathon. This year, I am planning to run multiple half marathons, including trying to PR a bit, plus do long distance hiking on the Ice Age Trail.

What is this challenge you are doing? I'm liking the introspection it involves, and I'm curious.

This is good! I was never one to follow a rigid diet, but with spark people I did take some things out of my diet, like ooey gooey chocolate creamy (yikes) and soda. I try to stay away from processed stuff, but not all the time, and fatty foods (like cheese and breads) but not all the time.

I am much better at tracking my fitness than my food. I am not ususally on the computer much after lunch.

I like your plan! So what is a "magic mile"?
