January in Review

I thought I would review the month of January quickly before moving on to my new goals for February.

Overall, I feel like January has been a pretty solid month. I've been doing little things each day and feel like I'm on my way to making better choices and taking proper care of my body. It's been encouraging, even though I haven't seen much progress on the physical side just yet. But then, I remind myself that sometimes it takes a bit for the body to figure out what is going on and catch up appropriately.

Right now, I feel like it's good enough that I'm starting to make better choices. I'm still not all the way there, but it's getting much better.

Physical Health:
I took part in the 30-day winter wellness challenge on SparkPeople. It was pretty neat to receive an article each day with something to read and a focus. While I didn't complete all of the physical activities, it was still great to get the resources and be reminded of just how much is available on SparkPeople. I logged in pretty much every day and spun the wheel, which was another goal of mine (although one that I didn't really talk about).

Another goal that I didn't write down was to exercise 3-5 times each week. I think there was only one week out of the five that I didn't do that, so all things considered, that was pretty good! Even that week I exercised at least once if not twice.

Spiritual Goals:
I changed my reading plan from "A Woman's Guide to Reading Through The Bible in a Year" to a plan that takes you through the new testament in one year. The other reading plan had too much reading, and I was really wanting a plan with smaller chunks to read so that I could really focus in on something...otherwise, I would just gloss over whatever I was reading that night.

I finished January for "Daily Wisdom for Women". Turns out, the free edition that I had downloaded to my Kindle only has one month. You have to pay to receive the full devotional. While it was a decent devotional, I wasn't really getting as much out of it as I have been in two of the other devotionals I'm reading, so I decided to scrap that one.

One of the devotionals I started reading is all about developing a gospel-centered prayer life. It's been encouraging and a great model for me. It's also helped me shift my focus on my prayer time, which has been great as well.

Speaking of prayer time, it was good to go through a month of different characteristics of God. It helped me to remember those aspects of His character that I have personally experienced and helped me pray through some of the ones that I haven't yet.

I've been reading "The Jesus I Never Knew" as well. HOLY. COW. So many different perspectives on Jesus and things that have got me thinking. It's been refreshing and has made my reading in the new testament that much more interesting to me. I'm loving it!

I think that about covers it...my next post will outline some of the specific goals I have for the months of February!
