Off To The Gem Show!
Saturday, February 01, 2014
The Tucson Gem, Mineral, Jewelry, Bead and Fossils Show is the biggest event to hit Tucson and I look forward to it every year the way a child counts down the days until Christmas. It lasts for 14 days and takes over hotel rooms, motel rooms, small tents, huge tents, warehouses, parking lots, the Tucson Convention Center and shows can be found along the freeway, all over town and out to hotels in Marana.
I have my itinerary clearly marked out in the Tucson Show Guide with the vendors I need to visit to replenish my low supplies of pearls, turquoise, gem stones and the findings that I don't make. My stash of cash has been carefully tucked into my bag along with copies of my business license. The rolling suitcase is already in the truck awaiting all the goodies we will fill it with. I am not dressed to impress; today comfort is what is called for: sneakers, walking shorts and a light jacket. It can get very stuffy at the shows. We will be on our feet from 10am until the last vendor closes shop at 5. Then get back up and do it again on Sunday.
Normally on the weekends we walk 4 miles each day, but for the past several weeks my left foot has been hurting in the arch and heel area, and is getting worse instead of better. This does not stop me from walking during the week, but I did not want anything hindering my shopping. However, I did put on my Spark Activity Tracker and will see how many lights are lit up with all that shopping.
We have water bottles packed and have a place picked out to have lunch. This is one of the few times I do not bring snacks. Everything we touch is very dirty and the bathrooms are extremely busy so it is not easy to clean up. Truth be told, I don't get hungry at the shows, I only stop for a lunch break because my husband gets very grouchy when he is hungry. Hmmm, maybe if I could afford to follow the gem shows from city to city I could finally be thin?
