My Miraculous? TV

Friday, January 31, 2014

Yes. I was beginning to think either my TV was miraculous or I (?) was. It happened almost every time I was watching TV. It got much worse when I started watching the food channel. My weight seemed to be increasing too. What do I mean “starting” to be increasing – it really was.
The problem (or miracle) was that whenever some tasty food, like steak or bacon or pizza (my weakness!) appeared on the screen I could SMELL it! The better and longer the tempting fragrance lingered the more I seemed to be hungry and want to go find something to eat. Well. I often did just that and that solved the “miraculous” weight gain!
Whenever I mentioned this “wonderful” talent (read “problem”), my friends thought I was fooling and, then finally that I was really getting a bit nuts. It was mentioning it to a young physical therapist that solved the miracle for me. He said that my memory and sense of fragrance seemed to be strongly connected. When a food that triggered memory appeared, I remembered the delicious taste and its fragrance and that memory stimulated the delicious aromas.
Well, that was an answer to the fragrance. I was beginning to believe the presentation of the smell of food was some sort of new subliminal experiment being tried on various channel subscribers.
Now the problem remaining was how to resist the mouth watering smells and to remember that I am not hungry. I’m really not. Really . . .

I have tried to stick to two new recipes a week. Then I can get just the foods I need from the store. In the past I would see something on sale and remember I needed that for a recipe - then when I couldn't find the recipe I had to find some way to use the item or, if fresh, let it spoil! Organization will save my frustration - I hope!

Hi Meri, I too am a fan of the cooking shows and the various food channels. There are so many and I can't stop watching them either. But you know what I've found ??? is there are some GREAT healthy food cooking shows on now so I look for them and watch them first !!! The food they prepare looks heavenly delicious and yes the do make pizzas and they do use bacon !!! So search around the remote and find some of those healthy food shows and maybe you won't feel as guilty, I know I don't.

Another thing I do is print out recipes not that I ever make nearly as many as I print but for some reason it satisfies me that I might some day ... LOL !!!!

So good to see you hon.
