Day #5: PaleoCon (Robb Wolf, Denise Minger, Stephanie Greunke, Neghar Fonooni)

Friday, January 31, 2014

G'Morning, SPARKlers!
(Actually I'm on my way to bed, but as I won't be available tomorrow morning, I'm pretending it's already here.)

Still posting daily (though I'm starting to fall behind a little, LOL!)... 6 more days!

Regardless, even if I don't get everything watched each day before the event is over, I'll finish watching afterward, and complete my notes. So, if you're interested, keep checking back!

Today is going to be challenging... we have family dental appointments first thing in the morning, and then The Divine Miss O has an eye appointment in the afternoon... I never get anything done that is 'me' oriented on the days when she is off from school.

The upcoming weekend is pretty swamped, too... dance (for Miss O) all day Saturday... in between her soccer tournament games... YIKES! I hope I can still get one video a day in.

Anyway, have a great day, and if you're watching at all, tell me what you think!

May today and every day bring to you a ridiculous abundance of whatever you need. May you find peace within and all around you. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith and desire... a desire which even itself issues from God. May all your concerns, struggles, anxieties and fears fall like ashes as you rise on eagle's wings, SOARING above all that would hinder you along this tremendous adventure of being and becoming all you are created to be. May you answer your call and use those gifts that you have received to pass on the love that has been given to you. May the presence of God settle into your bones and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love beyond your wildest imagination. May you be overwhelmed by the grace of God as it simply "overtakes" you moment by moment... rather than being overwhelmed by the cares of life!

Listen to the following talks HERE: paleocon.com/event/
(each set of talks is available for 24 hours)

Robb Wolf
How to Customize Paleo for Different People, Circumstances, and Goals: In this session, Robb Wolf, author of the New York Times best seller The Paleo Solution, joins John to talk about the evolution of Paleo - from "1.0" to "3.0" - and where Paleo is headed in the future.
In this session, Robb will show you:
♦ How to set priorities for your Paleo diet: grains, dairy, and more
♦ Do you have systemic inflammation – learn the common indicators and what to do about them
♦ How to customize the Paleo diet for different goals

Denise Minger
The Truth About The China Study
♦ How The China Study misrepresents findings on animal protein
♦ The worst food in The China Study (and the best one)
♦ The top vegetarian myths – debunked

• How The China Study misrepresents findings on animal protein

"Despite its increasing popularity (and glowing endorsements by high-profile vegan converts like Bill Clinton), The China Study is, in many ways, more a work of fiction than a nutritional holy grail. The book has spawned a number of myths about the hazards of animal protein and the true results of the China Study itself—myths that easily crumble under a scrutinizing eye, but nonetheless continue trickling into the mainstream and gaining mounting publicity."

• Interview With an Ex-Vegan: Denise Minger

"Is it possible to “do veganism right” from a health perspective?
I’ll put it this way: it’s possible to do veganism in a way that makes the best of a diet that doesn’t naturally suit the human body’s physiology. A vegan who eats chiefly whole foods, minimizes their phytate and lectin load, eats enough fat to maximize nutrient absorption, nixes unfermented soy and weird meat replacements, supplements where necessary, and doesn’t become a starch-noshing monster might be able to dodge health problems for a lot longer than someone who eats nothing but Toffuti Cuties.
But that’s not the same as saying there’s a truly “correct” form of veganism that guarantees success. I don’t believe veganism is optimal for most people, especially long term — so “doing veganism right” may be an elusive or impossible ideal."

Stephanie Greunke
Feeding The Female Athlete:
"Stephanie drops some knowledge on John about some of the top problems affecting women - especially athletes - today. She talks about the failings of modern medicine to help women with these common health problems, and shows how the Paleo diet and lifestyle can help deal with them. "
♦ What is the Female Athlete Triad – and do I have it?
♦ How to prevent eating disorders and food fixations
♦ Irregular periods or none at all – why it matters

• The Female Athlete Triad

"Any female is susceptible to the triad, but it is commonly seen in female athletes whose sports emphasize low body weight or leanness – think gymnasts, ballerinas, or endurance runners. The female doesn’t have to be an athlete nor do they need to be in a sport that emphasizes leanness. It could simply just be a woman who is restricting her calorie intake."

Neghar Fonooni
Should Women Lift Weights?
In this session, Neghar talks to John about:
♦ the importance of strength for women
♦ how to set expectations for your body
♦ some tips on how to deal with emotional eating.

Thank you for posting all of this. I watched the video yesterday about what the bible says about health and disease. It was very interesting. I never put thought into why the had rules with food and hygiene. I haven't checked out what is available today yet. Looking forward to it
