plateaus and feelings (roller derby rant)
Thursday, January 30, 2014
Every 4 months or so my roller derby league re-drafts the top 32-ish skaters out of over 100. And every 4 months i'm forced to hear other skater's opinions of me and work my hardest to make a travel team. This is one of the most difficult things I deal with in my life. -I know that I'm lucky that this is the case.
Today I was told by an evaluator that the committe felt I had plateaued. That it seemed like I was burnt out and maybe I'd rather take a break than be on a team. I have been skating for 7 years and in the last year I feel like i've grown a LOT considering how long i've done this. But, right now other people's perception matter more than my own.
So, I ask you, sparkpeople, what can I do to ~show~ them that I am motivated?!
On to the feelings side of it all... I love my league. I do SO much off skates work (read: league business) because I really care and roller derby is the second most important thing to me after my family/friends. I have made soul-mate intensity friends. I get to say I skate with an elite league (Rocky Mountain Rollergirl... google us, we're LEGIT) I have an inherant reason to push myself mentally, physically and emotionally every day of the week.I would NEVER consider taking a step back from something I love so much while my body can physically handle it.
So anyway... just wanted to share.
