Ok, so hate is a pretty strong word, but when you’re talking about hitting a weight class that you thought you’d left behind forever, the emotions stirred, of disgust at one’s self, mixed with the stronger stuff of self-loathing, mixed with wonderment at how much work you put in and then let go to waste, well, hate is pretty appropriate description for how I feel about crossing the 200 pound mark in the wrong direction.
(dunno if twoterville is the official title, but if onederland is the good place people go to crossing the barrier in the other direction, then twoterville seems like an appropriately stinky place. Have I mentioned I have a occasionally juvenile sense of humor?)
Granted, I didn’t weigh myself this morning, so this is after a couple of meals, middle of the afternoon, after a week where I went to Texas and did social stuff on the weekend thereafter, so I could wake up and it could all be a bad dream (seriously, I could wake up tomorrow and weigh myself at 199.8, and all would be…not ok, exactly, but less annoying), but I’d still be on the verge of trucking right through a barrier better left undisturbed.
So, that’s bad Monday. On the good side, well, I went to see a band called Battlecross play Saturday night. They’re local to this area, and I’ve been hearing about them for years from friends in the area. Over the past couple of years, they’ve started to hit it big, signing to Metal Blade Records, getting huge hype on the Liquid Metal station on Sirius radio, getting called the breakout star of Metallica’s Orion festival, etc. But the whole ‘living in Wisconsin’ thing prevented me from ever catching them live. I saw an ad for a local show a few weeks ago, and went ahead and bought a ticket on line. Turns out if you bought a pre-sale ticket, you were entered into a drawing for a giveaway. So I filled out the little ticket, and dropped it in the box. Thought nothing of it, especially when they failed to award the prize before the end of the night. Figured they’d given it away while I was at the bar, talking to friends.
But then, this afternoon, I get a text, with a link to Instagram…well, check it out for yourself….

Well, I suppose I oughta learn how to play, then, huh?
