My New Snack Trick

emoticon SPARK FRIENDS

Let me talk about one trick that I discover to fight my late night cravings, or any other time cravings.

Before starting SP, I was a person who liked to eat huge portions of food at every meal. Unfortunately I am still craving big portions. It is very hard for me to limit my portions to fit in my calorie range. I think that this is going to be one goal in the future. Right now, I am still working on getting the most amount of food for less calories. .

emoticon About a week ago, I had some grapes that needed to be consumed, but nobody in my house ate them. What could I do with them? I hate to waste food. I decided to wash them, dry them, and freeze them to use them in my green smoothies.

The other day, I was craving something to eat. Digging in the freezer, I found the grapes. I decided to eat them as a late night snack. Because they were frozen, I had to eat them veeeery slowly and was forced to savor each of them. This nutritious snack with little calorie content, was delicious, and kept me busy eating for a long time.

emoticon The success of this snack made me think about different fruits. Among other chunks of fruits that I have in the freezer for the smoothies, I have oranges and tangerines peeled and in segments. I decided to try some when I was hungry. It worked like a charm.

I am very glad that I found a new tool to help me reach my weight goal. Now, my arsenal has a big bowl of air popped popcorn, when I need volume, and frozen fruits, when I want to spend time eating.

What are your tricks to placate your cravings?

Frozen grapes are awesome!! And I've even enjoyed bags of frozen green beans that I can nibble on during my commute home from going shopping in "The Big Town" - especially in the summer. Frozen berries. It's all good - it forces you to slow down, plus most of them are rich in water so it helps hydrate you too. Win Win Win

I have successfully frozen grapes, mango pieces, banana chunks, and soups. I am still trying to figure out how to make my greens last longer. Right now I am not feeling well and many of my greens are in poor shape. I had such good intentions 3 weeks ago. chris

Like Beth [Indy-girl] I eat a can of beans [my favorite is pork and beans] for 385 calories.. the protein fixes the cravings and if I'm hungry ALL day, I brown off extra lean burger and add 3 bags of frozen mixed vegetables and add seasoning to my plate. I might have Masterpiece Caribbean Jerk Sauce or KC Masterpiece Honey Teriyaki while my husband might have sweet and sour.. almost forgot, I love it with ranch dressing on corn shells too. These are my two favorite fixes, my 3rd is to baked chicken breasts [which I keep frozen and on hand all the time] if the cravings hit 2 to 3 ounces curbs it! (Makes a good stir fry for lunch too.. when added to the coleslaw makings you buy in the bag.. with a touch of the Jerk Sauce..)

Frozen pineapple [two rings] with a tray of ice & a cup of milk... Splenda is my favorite shake.

    Brilliant!

(We always have a bag of frozen grapes in the freezer!)

If you freeze bananas in chunks, you can then pop them into the blender, add a bit of vanilla and on high speed whir them up until they are thick and creamy.

Voila! Instant low-fat, low-carb, DELICIOUS ice cream (and what other ice cream has FIBRE, LOL)! If you sprinkle some nuts on top, you have a sunday. A little cocoa powder and honey makes chocolate! A bunch of frozen strawberries and a bit of banana makes strawberry!

    My family LOVES this stuff!

I have heard of the frozen grape trick, but have never tried it. Glad to hear it helps. I am like you, I am a big eater, and even healthy items I tend to eat to much of.
