Week Four: Injured but Won't Let it Keep Me Down

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

As we say in our classroom, “Oh, rats!” It’s an “Oh, rats!” kind of day. The children were all out of it today, especially the child I work with. I’m not sure why but I have been assigned to him all day. I don’t mind it when he is on task and having a good day, however his bad days outweigh the good days. Today was a harsh day. I don’t want to feel like I’m complaining or being negative but I’m going to being opening up an L&I (workman’s comp) case. I was injured on the job today from his unsafe behavior. Not only do a have a six inch scratch mark on my arm and got my glasses knocked off my face twice because he was trying to scratch my face, but I have my back in pain. This was first thing in the morning and it was nonstop behavior like this throughout the day. It is a bummer. I have had big plans this week for workouts. I have been working hard on trying to get healthy and lost this extra weight as well make myself stronger. The physical therapist said, not to work at all with this child.

On the plus side, I called my chiropractor to open an L&I case and she was able to open up a slot tomorrow at 1pm and thinks I should continue with all my physical therapies, massage therapies, and chiropractic appointments. I’m debating getting a doctor involved since last time I did and my doctor’s just wanted to give me pills. I’m thinking about going to a naturopath doctor.

I wasn’t able to go to my deep water class because I just feel it’s time to take a break tonight and heal. We will find out more tomorrow at the chiropractic appointment. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. I have the chiropractor appointment, physical therapy, and then acupuncture.

The positive of today was I was able to have all my water intake, I ate a healthy breakfast, snack, and lunch. Dinner was emotional eating but I’m still within my calorie range but I could’ve made better choices for dinner. Tomorrow I will.

Plans for tomorrow:
Physical Therapy,
Possibly Aqua Zumba.

Five things I'm grateful for:
1. Caring Co-workers.
2. Freedom of medical choices.
3. A full gas tank.
4. My cozy bed.
5. Getting off work.

I don't know what kind of kids you work with...I had a friend who used to work with autistic kids and frequently got injured. I admire the patience it must take. There are plenty of times I find it hard to deal with 'normal' adults. Hope you feel better soon emoticon

I'm sorry to hear you were hurt by a child. I am not sure what kind of work you do, but I have a very close friend with a child who is like that when they feel stressed or confused, I've seen the damage he can do. I hope you feel better quickly.
