We do everything together and here we will too!

Thursday, January 16, 2014

Hi dear friends, last year was a trying year with lots of sickness and scary moments, but by the Grace of God's love and promise of a new day we survived. I wish I could say this year is off to a good start, but not so much.

As my body is healing it is under a lot of stress and recently I injured my back taking our dog out on a snowy icy day. Dear hubby now requires home health care as his muscular dystrophy brings about new challenges and both of us are experiencing high blood sugar levels.

We have committed to one another to begin Spark together and work on a diabetic diet faithfully before his appointment scheduled in Feb to see an endocrinologist. I know together we can accomplish anything and this will be no different. Hand in hand and heart to heart we will rid ourselves of simple sugars, and be mindful of our carb intake, and begin a healthy regimen of better choices.

I feel anything we do, exercise, eating healthy, whatever the goal, it is far more obtainable if you have a loving and supporting partner. We have learned through our home health nurse that it is essential to our health that we make these changes to avoid kidney failure or diabetic coma with our numbers so high.

We are grateful of any support or recipes from those of you who battle diabetes type 2.

I thank you in advance and am hopeful our efforts we make for a better life for the both of us.

Glad to be back with you all, love Debbie*aka happygirl511 and my dear hubby Bill * aka freespirit518

I hope you both are in better health soon and that your blood sugars are under control. My advice would be to avoid processed foods and concentrate on fresh meat, fresh veggies, fresh fruit, seeds, nuts, legumes. and low fat dairy. It's how I control mine.

It is great to have a supportive spouse to help in our health journey. And since he's taking the journey with you, that's a double blessing! There are several teams on Spark dedicated to diabetics, I'm sure you could find some recipes and help there. Best wishes!

Sometimes a good kick in the pants will set you on your way. Those BS numbers being so high for both of you is that kick here. You know the diet and together with your DH and all your wonderful support and your Spark for life, you are going to make that issue a thing of the past. Remember, this IS FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Make those lives long and healthy., PLease?
