Week 37 and 38...

Monday, January 13, 2014

Hi all! So...its been pretty hectic here since around the 18th of Dec.

So here is what has happened...

On the 18th my hubby went in for hernia surgery...he had insitional hernia's for about 5 years due to an emergency surgery he had had for a perforated ulcer...

He finally had lost enough weight to get them repaired! They found 6 hernia's, 2 large and 4 small so they had to put in a large mesh to repair them...

The surgery went beautifully and he came home on the 20th...

On the 23rd we went in and got his drain removed and on the 26th went in for his post op appointment...all was looking really good and he was given a clean bill of health...then the evening of the 26th he started having really bad pain...we went into the ER and after about 6 hours of tests found out that he had gallstone pancreatites....
That is when a stone passes through the pancreas... but it had passed through...they kept him till friday to make sure that all was well and he came home...then late saturday, he started having the pain again...but we waited to see if it would pass...and by early Sunday...when it hadn't we went into the ER again...

Found out his gallbladder now had an infection and probably was blocked...but due to the recent hernia surgery and the large mesh...any gallbladder surgery would compromise that mesh...they said 100% chance of either the mesh failing and having to go in and remove it...then heal...then get it redone but would have bigger hernias, and/or having and infection happen in the abdomen, which is really bad...

So the decision was made to try putting a drain in his gallbladder with a bag on the outside that will drain the gallbladder till his hernia mesh can heal and then we can do the gallbladder surgery...

we are looking at 4-6 weeks of the drain and bag...we have to flush it every day...but it really isn't that's more of an annoyance to him then anything....

So this is where we are at now...he is home with the bag, we have a follow up appointment tomorrow to make sure all is well, but at this point it seems to be working...

Now as for me...with all the traveling back and forth to the hospital and the holidays...I haven't been totally sticking to the diet...although I finally weighted myself yesterday just to see the damage and I haven't gained or lost anything since the 28th...I'm still at I guess I haven't been going way overboard either!

So now I am slowly going back to keeping track and getting back on track...I am hoping by the end of this month I can be back in business!

I still have alot going on....on top of all the above...we have also changed health care the hospital we were going to, we can't now and are trying to find a doc...our plan is a higher deductable and doesn't cover what our other plan did...

And I also have been having alot of family issues on my side of the family that have caused more stress on top of all this!

So I will be back but probably not every day like least for a bit! I plan on still participating in the BLC24 for sure though!

Thank you all for checking in on me and making sure all was all are so sweet!

Sure have missed you. I'm glad that you're OK and that things are getting better. Sorry about the medical insurance. That is the pits. I've been in that position before and it isn't any fun. I hope things work out soon and you get back on track and things calm down with your family drama. You've been missed terribly on the Let's Talk board and we've been praying for you! I hope you have a better week this week and I will continue to pray for you and your husband. Take care and God bless!

Tammy and Bob you are both such an inspiration to us all. I hope and pray that everything settles down now and you can stop by Azure and put your feet in the warm sand and get some R&R after a break that wasn't a break at ALL. Both of you and your entire family are in my best thoughts and prayers. Miss you Tammy but totally understand. emoticon

Yep, it hasn't been the greatest of times but we can praise God that I had enough vacation time to help with this whole thing and that I am able to work from home. I do look forward to getting into the office when I can but for now I am just trying to do my best while working from home. I hope we find doctors and hospital as good as what we had through this entire experience. The Kaiser Permanente doctors and Sunnyside Medical Center were absolutely fantastic. I wish we could continue with them but, as my wife wrote, we had changes at work one of them was dropping all HMO's and putting into place 2 High Deductible Health Plan options. It is a pain but we can be thankful that we do at least have health insurance where many people don't currently.

Oh, and through it all I've lost about 9 lbs since last month and I am at 92.6 lbs off (now at 211.2 lbs.) so I am liking that.

Wow - you two have been through the ringer these past few weeks!

You are amazing - maintaining your weight - and your good spirits! Continued prayers for dh's recovery and NO MORE complications. I'm taking a BLC break this round, but will see you around SP for sure.
