hi all - i am still here - hope you are doing ok . we are half way thru the first month of 2014.
i have noticed the huge increase in the pop ups and the teasers on this site - indeed everywhere it is most annoying
but even more annoying than the intrusion it the fact that there is NO CONTENT THAT IS SUBSTANCE IN THESE SILLY COME ONS. i e ='FIVE FOODS WOMEN SHOULD NEVER EAT' so my cursor accidentally ran across it and opened it. it is a bunch of hog wash and no where is there ONE WORD about foods women should never eat.
i find that is what days are full of now - a whole big bunch of nothing - time is precious and i cannot waste it on drivel.
we all know this is TABLOID pranks - sensationalism - but it is different on the grocery store check out shelve than it is in my home on my screen in MY FACE.

it applies to everything - always appealing to our own greed , or quickie way out of situations.
so do me a favor - make a resolution right now - not to go and even PEEK at this sludge.
if we ignore it - maybe - some of it will GO AWAY - PULEEEEZE!!

I recently wrote about this and most responded that, as long as the site is free, just ignore them. I am spending a lot less time on SP due to the intrusion of ads and the types they accept. Greedy. I'm surprised they don't advertise cig and alcohol. (smiling)

Those annoying pop-ups and ads are what keeps SparkPeople free, so I just ignore them!

I generally ignore all of the ads. Occasionally if I accidently click one, I don't even look at it and I just close it. Since this is a free site, I understand why they have to have ad revenue. emoticon

Man oh man do I ever agree with you on this one!!!

I too succumbed to one of those darn pop -ups on this site, something about improving your life with diabetes - getting off on all meds within as little as 30 days or so...... Well, once i clicked on it and it opened there I stayed, stuck for close to 10 minutes and I couldn't get it to let me exit until after I got to the "How Much" part!

The rationales were impressive, the promises worthy of the best political campaign promises, but surely if it a diabetic cure were that easy, someone would have been proclaiming it's powers all over the media!! (Not that I believe the media all that much anyway...)

The cost was relatively cheap, less than $50 if I remember correctly, but I am ever a skeptic of all these miracle cures, instant results, and such, so there is no way I would have given this fellow 50 cents never mind $50.

No one was harmed by my listening to his spiel, nothing was lost other than a few moments of my time but was again I felt disillusioned by another "get rich quick " type of deal.

I wonder just how many people get so excited by all these fake promises - con jobs, if you will - and turn over their hard earned money for no good reason at all. that's the part of all these ads / promises / pop ups / scams that always bothers me the most.
