Shopping Downer

Sunday, January 12, 2014

My gym issued gift certificates for New Balance for personal training. I reached a deadline for using up the $150. credit so I went shopping yesterday.

I bought a fleece hoody and really great exercise pants that fit like a glove and show my gym toned calves. However, even the extra large top was kind of clingy and showed all the fat rolls I sport near my waist. I decided to buy the outfit and forgo wearing it until summer. Hopefully, my tires will go down by then.

My frustration is: "Why do sports companies make such clingy, smallish sizes?" The same can be said for Nike. I think they are missing catering to a larger clientele who in spite of not being a size 8, still want to exercise and look great doing it. I tried on men's shirts and although they gave more at the waist they also were baggy on the shoulder.

I got the shirt because it was a lovely colour and will wear it by the summer even it does show some jiggle. emoticon

I understand your frustration with the sportswear but it doesn't have to be a complete downer. 40 lbs ago, would that top have even fit? It's a good thing that it fits now even if it's a little snug. You are focusing on the work you have to do instead of how much work you already did. You did a fabulous job getting the weight off and that is no small task. Don't forget about all your progress to this point!

Hi Wendy! Somehow I don't seem to be getting all my blog notifications! I almost missed this one!

And speaking of missing... I have missed you! How are you doing? Are you still working the night shift? When does the job wind down?

I think you make a legitimate complaint about the sportswear! It would go a long way if someone paid attention to this, as everyone could use the encouragement to be more active!

How wonderful that your gym gave out the discount coupons!

Having trouble relating... since I don't go to the gym or anywhere else in public to exercise.. I am at home alone with my videos & dvds with only the cat to watch; and, she sleeps through the whole ordeal. I refuse to look in reflective surfaces that show more than a hazy outling until I get within hand-shaking distance to my goal weight. Hopefully that WILL happen in this lifetime.
When I was going to the gym I was so busy doing my exercising that I really didn't notice what anyone else was wearing... well unless it looked like it had been in a war-zone or a cat-fight ... you know all ragged and holey...
But then I decided they were making a fashion statement and had worked hard to achieve THAT look.
Hope your weekend has been a good one... with a great week to follow.
    Hugs, Audra

Wow! That's a great prize to get from your gym! You are right about a lot of company's making tight fitting tops. My daughter loves them as she say's they wick the sweat away quicker, but she's a size 4 marathon runner and in her 20's. Big difference between her and me. There are some company's though that are catching on and you can find (even Nike and Under Armour) now making "relaxed fit" tops. Much more comfortable for we women "of a certain age". lol! Enjoy the perfect fit pants and fleece hoodie, and I'm sure you'll look great in the top by summer!

I know what you mean! The pants always fit me, and the shirts never do. You would think they would make sizes that look like real people!
