First Big Food Shopping Trip of 2014

Wednesday, January 08, 2014

I've gotten little bit of food here and there. I mostly buy from work, I'll admit though the pharmacy retail store is limited on healthy food options (though 2 for 2.50 -.50 coupon on progresso soup wasn't too bad). But today I did my first big shop from Fred Meyer.

Meats
clearance preseasoned chicken breast = 3.06
jenny-o turkey ground package = 3.69 (minus 1.00 coupon)
ground beef package = 3.66

Vegetables
frozen green beans = .79
fresh sliced mushrooms = 1.99
fresh red onion .40

Bread and such
pillsbury crescants (2) = 2.19(x2) (minus 40 cent coupon off two)
pillsbury biscuit (2) = 1.00(x2) (minus 30 cent coupon off two)
barilla veggie pasta (2) = 1.00(x2) (minus 1.00 off two)

Soups and such
cream of mushroom = .89

Dairy and such
shredded pepper cheese = 1.99
shredded cheddar cheese = 1.99
sliced provolone = 1.99

Other
quaker oatmeal cups (2) = 1.79(x2) (minus 1.00 off two)
Atkins snack bars (2) = 10.00 for 2 (minus 1.55 from coupons)

Total spent was 37.63

Not bad. True about 1/4th of that is on the atkins bars that I'm trying, but I feel they will be a better after work choice at night than the sour patch kids sitting on the counter. 5 bars per box it equals not a bad price overall, though real food is indeed better than the diet meal replacements.

Now to get cooking so I have stuff to eat before work and such the next week.

Thanks for the comment but I have no problem with having a biscuit on occasion. I'm not against bread items in a diet. Though I don't need to eat the whole container of biscuits in one meal, I can have one.

I'm not quite set on what I'll cook as some of it just goes in the freezer for later. I do have a vegetable recipe I found that I plan to try out using frozen veggies. Canned are cheapish depending on the brand and I'll get a little more of those next.

You don't need the biscuit or crecent if you want to lose weight. I know they are good but calories. Are canned veggies cheaper. Market Basket has the same prices today, so guess the prices are normal. So what are you going to cook? Oatmeal is good for breakfast, will keep you full.
