Walking against all odds

Friday, January 03, 2014

I got my main walking in this afternoon clipping through Wal*Mart as I was waiting to pick up prescriptions for my sick college daughter. The pharmacy was so backed up that I actually got in 58 minutes, with about 10 minutes just standing right at the counter - in place!! emoticon Hey works for me even though I’m sure I looked like a nut! But as I was leaving an elderly gentlemen came over and asked if I got in my 10,000 steps and we both smiled. He bid me good luck and commended me on my enthusiasm and determination. When I said “ya it’s a brand New Year and only the 3rd, check back with me on the 7th and we both chuckled.

By 7 pm I finished my final trek with a 24 minute SPARK outside, which put me over my 10,000 steps for today. emoticon and another GLOW GETTER AWARD!! But this SPARK really was against all odds. It’s down right COLD here at 15 degrees with blowing wind & snow everywhere, making it feel like -9 below! But hey, this is the upper mid-west and Chicago is known as the “Windy City”. Although I am 50 miles NW of downtown the wind is blowing fiercely but ya just dress warm and WALK FAST - emoticon

I recently read a friends blog about “YakTrax Walk” (CHERYL_ANNE's blog “Loving My YakTrax Walk”) and I had never heard of these before. So now I gotta get me a pair to help walk in this brutal winter wonderland weather we are having. It’s only January 3rd and winter really just began so maybe I should invest in a pair of snow shoes as well, Ya think? Wonder if old tennis rackets would do? I know I have a few laying around out in the garage. Maybe I could use a little fashionable “duck tape” and WALLA - SNOW SHOES!

Well I'm now 3 for 3 and feel a great start! I am going to continue to take one-day-at-a-time and see how far I roll with this…and am having fun finding ways to get in my steps. Just think - if I can do this now, in this brutal Chicago weather, come spring and summer, it should be a breeze…

10,000 steps? WOW! You have got to feel wonderful about yourself. I hope your daughter gets better soon (and that she wasn't sick over the holidays). emoticon

Ooooh, you're getting your 10,000 steps in, too! Yes, I've racked up a LOT of steps in WalMart.
And I've just discovered Leslie Sansone's Walk At Home videos, and I see that there are other walk at home and work out at home and do all sorts of things at home vids that can keep me busy when it's just too doggoned cold and miserable outside.

I'm loving the fact that the gentlemen knew what you were doing.

Ever since I started wearing the SPAT, I've given up worrying about what I look like and simply tell people as they are side-eyeing me that I am wearing an activity tracker and therefore keep moving as opposed to needing the restroom or being fidgety.

I "walk" all the aisles when I'm at the stores now. Yay, SPAT!!
